David Beckham recently surprised fans by unveiling a photo of a stadium he is building at Miami Freedom Park in Florida, slated for completion and launch in 2026.

The new stadium will accommodate more than 25,000 spectators and will be part of the broader Miami Freedom Park complex, which features a range of leisure and entertainment facilities including a golf course, restaurants, hotels, and public parks. Groundbreaking for the project is expected in August 2023, with total costs estimated at around US$1 billion. Once operational, the Inter Miami stadium could bring significant benefits to the local community, generating over 15,000 jobs and drawing more tourists to the area.

Although scheduled to open in 2026, the venue will not be used during the World Cup. Instead, matches will be held at other locations in Florida, such as Hard Rock Stadium. Nevertheless, Beckham and his team are optimistic that the stadium at Miami Freedom Park will soon become one of the standout football destinations in the United States.

David Beckham’s little-known business career

Recent estimates place the Beckham couple’s net worth at around $500 million, largely accumulated through sports, brand partnerships, real estate investments and business ventures.

Long before his involvement in the Miami Freedom Park stadium project, David Beckham had already made significant moves in the business world. Yet, thanks to his achievements in sport and entertainment—and frequent media coverage of his family—his entrepreneurial efforts have often gone under the radar.

In 2014, the year he officially retired from football, Beckham and his wife founded DRJB Holdings Limited (initially known as Beckham Brand Holdings), a company managing his portfolio of ventures including David Beckham Ventures Limited, Seven Global LLP, and Studio 99 Group.

By the end of 2023, DRJB Holdings Limited reported a pre-tax profit of $36.2 million, an increase of $16.2 million from 2022. A notable contribution came from Studio 99 Group, which saw a $15 million boost in revenue, largely due to the success of its documentary productions. Among them, Beckham, which premiered on Netflix, drew over 3 million viewers within its first week.

Beckham has also branched into various other sectors. He teamed up with Coty to launch a fragrance line under his name, widely favoured by men worldwide. He is the founder of DB Eyewear and more recently introduced BEEUP, a honey-based snack brand for children and families. Interestingly, BEEUP was born out of David Beckham’s newfound interest in beekeeping during the Covid-19 lockdowns, a hobby revealed in his Netflix documentary.

He also co-founded Prenetics, a wellness company that became the first of its kind to announce a $20 million investment in Bitcoin—a move that sent its share price soaring by 23 per cent. Prenetics later introduced a premium supplement line named IM8.

David Beckham: Not only an excellent player, but also an admirable male role model

Over the years, though he no longer competes on the pitch, David Beckham remains one of football’s enduring icons.

In 2018, David Beckham became co-owner and president of Inter Miami CF. He has since poured immense time, effort and capital into developing the team, upgrading facilities and nurturing its youth academy, contributions that have significantly helped the club grow.

But Beckham’s vision extends beyond building a promising team. He is also determined to attract and develop world-class talent. That ambition is evident in the high-profile signings he has secured, including Blaise Matuidi, Gonzalo Higuaín, and, most notably, the legendary Lionel Messi. Messi’s arrival sparked a dramatic rise in the club’s visibility, leading to increased revenue, recognition and global appeal.

Beyond football, Beckham harnesses his personal influence to drive social change. He frequently supports and contributes to charitable causes and serves as a goodwill ambassador for Unicef. In February 2025, he attended the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where he received the Crystal Award 2025 in honour of his work supporting vulnerable children. In conversation with host Tania Bryer, Beckham reflected on the life values instilled by his parents, principles he now passes on to his own children.

During his Crystal Award acceptance speech, Beckham shared that having a daughter inspired his commitment to helping children worldwide, particularly girls who face poverty, violence and discrimination. He often brings his children along on his philanthropic travels, encouraging them to understand global challenges and learn how to make a difference.

Thanks to his widespread influence and continued contributions, Beckham was recently knighted on King Charles’ birthday, with his wife Victoria now formally known as Lady Victoria Beckham. The honour, something Beckham had long aspired to, signals a new chapter in his life. Alongside the title, it also grants privileges such as the use of the Knights Bachelor Chapel at St Paul’s Cathedral for official occasions. It is clear that Beckham’s stature has not diminished in recent years: on the contrary, it continues to grow, cementing his place as a global icon in sport, business and popular culture.
