Timeless Christmas traditions shine brighter at Shangri-La Plaza, thanks to carefully curated experiences that make the season truly unforgettable

For many urban families, Shangri-La Plaza exudes familiarity. The iconic landmark in Mandaluyong has long served as a weekend habit, a central meeting point, and a setting for those long lunches, celebrations, and catch-ups that ultimately become cherished traditions.

Shang has always had a way of making everyday get-togethers feel a little more special. And when the holidays return—early and full of anticipation, as they do in the Philippines—the “Shang experience” is not one to be missed. Gorgeous ornaments and lighting installations line the elegant halls, the tree is lit in spectacular fashion, and events throughout the season effortlessly weave warmth, refinement, and a sense of community.

This year’s festivities kicked off on November 15 with the highly anticipated tree lighting at the Grand Atrium. Titled ‘A Symphony of Sparkle’, it was an evening of graceful and beautifully orchestrated musical storytelling, led by musical director Farley Asuncion and musical arranger Rory Fortich.

The Philippine Madrigal Singers, the Manila String Machine, vocal powerhouses Johann Enriquez and Sheena Lee Palad, the Speed Dancers, and Ballet Manila brought the narrative to life through stirring performances. Each act spotlighted elements of the quintessential Filipino Christmas, like carolling and Simbang Gabi.

Shang’s festive décor amplifies the magic. Crystal-like details and timeless ornaments seem to float midair, anchored by a stunning suspended Christmas tree—the only one of its scale in the Philippines—glowing at the heart of the mall. With rich gold and green tones illuminating every turn, each visit feels dipped in nostalgia and holiday sparkle.

The celebrations continue all season and throughout Shang. On the same day as the tree lighting, Gucci added to the high spirits with an exclusive preview of its Cruise 2026 Collection. Guests here enjoyed cocktails courtesy of Michelin-selected Juniper by Josh Boutwood, fitting for a destination that honours luxury and tradition seamlessly.

This will swiftly be followed by the Ateneo Boys Choir on December 13, Studio Dance by Lina on December 14, then the St Theresa’s College Quezon City on December 20, and finally the Mandaluyong Children’s Choir on December 21.

The Shang closes 2025 with the ‘Encore of Lights’ fireworks display on December 30—a crowd favourite that brings families together, whether they come from near or far.
