DMark Beauty
Nikki Tang, founder and CEO of DMark Beauty and DermAsia, shares with Tatler her life beyond this role
“I first started DMark Beauty almost 25 years ago,” founder and CEO Nikki Tang recalls. Clad in a green power blazer and a Dion Lee mesh panel skirt, she speaks with assertive confidence. It is easy to forget that she is a 52-year-old single mother of two boys, to boot. “I entered the emerging beauty industry with a vision. Our company aimed to bring in products and devices that are safe, efficient and effective.” To supplement these efforts, she founded DermAsia to bring in cutting-edge technology and technical know-how.

“We are very aggressive in attending and engaging in medical events, congresses, conventions and training [programmes],” Tang explains. Her company’s initiative, Beauty and Beyond, tours the country, gathering leading doctors and dermatologists to share their expertise with both peers and consumers alike. Meanwhile, through Beauty for a Cause, the group supports cancer awareness, wellness initiatives and foundations that are close to Tang’s heart. “Giving back is not optional—it’s the true measure of success.” But she is more than just the head of two industry juggernauts.
“It’s not about a work-life balance,” Tang explains. “It’s work-life integration.” There are precious few moments of pause in her busy schedule, so she makes do. “For example, if I have a meeting but there happens to be a small window to do other things, I take it. It’s not, ‘Oh, this is a Saturday issue or a Monday issue.’ You find time, you make time.”

Above Tang's confidence shines through in any situation—be it work or play

Tang’s ability to navigate through such complexities stems from her disposition. She constantly keeps herself stimulated with interests filled with intent—even something like a quick power nap. “When you see me like this”, Tang smiles as she pretends to fall asleep, “I’m rejuvenating, preparing for my next engagement.” Just as quickly, she straightens herself. “It’s part of the job. You should know how to compartmentalise. You can be emotionally stricken one day, but if you have a client call at four in the afternoon, you have to show up.” Among her passions, which range from piano, journalling and photography to travel, it is her penchant for shoes—particularly sneakers—that stand out. “Airports nowadays are huge,” she laughs. “How are you going to walk from end to end in boots or heels?” She has her favourite brands, including a recent one she was cajoled to try by a friend.

Her expression softens when she speaks of her two sons. “Ethan is very charismatic, assured,” she remarks. “If I enter a store and have three choices, he helps me decide. But sometimes, you already know what you want. You just want validation,” she jokes. “Malcolm is more thoughtful. Ever since he was three, he was always the ‘no man left behind’ type of person.” They bond over food despite their differing tastes, and when they travel, Tang empowers them to plan their trips. “It enriches them and it teaches them decision-making,” she affirms. “I want them to be men of values and character.”

Above Tang steps into every occasion with conviction

Tang is an individual who seldom stops moving forward, be it in business or life. She can be in a meeting in one moment and at a family gathering the next, leaving in her wake a passion that inspires and uplifts—a passion felt far beyond the walls of a boardroom. “I’d like DMark Beauty and DermAsia to be remembered as pioneers that raised the bar for skincare and aesthetics in the Philippines,” she muses. “I want to be remembered as someone who used beauty as a platform to inspire confidence and create impact. If my journey shows even one woman that she, too, can build something meaningful—that’s already a legacy I’m proud of.”
