Eyewear is an integral part of day-to-day style. For many, these spectacles and sunglasses are synonymous with who they are. Angie Mead King is no stranger to identity—in fact, she’s lived plenty. Whether she’s taking on the world of motorsports, modifying cars or pioneering eco-friendly farming, she always remains true to herself.
“I don’t compete internationally anymore,” King explains, but her passion for motorsports is far from extinguished. Her smile seems brightest as she poses atop a sports car she customised with Second Skin Industries. “I’m still very active in the community. I was ready to give up racing before, thinking that I wasn’t going to be accepted. So for me to be accepted…and to actually be dominating the field like in the [2025 Makabayan] Endurance Championship, it’s the complete opposite from when I was so scared.”

King is someone who is always moving forward, and her sense of style is no different. “Before the transition, I was already doing a lot of tailored suits and polos,” she says. Unsatisfied with the primarily boxy, baggy shape of menswear, she turned to tailors for custom-made pants and tops. “I will avoid certain cuts of clothing, skirts and dresses sometimes because [I have] a long torso or the waistline being too high.”
“Transitioning was easy because my wife, Joey, helped me a lot,” King remarks. “I like comfy clothing on a regular basis…so things like today, where [the tone] is more fashion lifestyle, it’s very new to me.”
But her wife’s influence doesn’t stop with just style: during the shoot, King moved with all the grace and confidence of a seasoned professional. “I’m married to a supermodel, and she’d kill me if I didn’t know my [stuff],” she jokes. “It's, it's a synergy made in heaven, where I still get to focus on my work. I don't have to stress about these things, and she'll help me curate all that.”

In the past, King’s choice of eyewear was a result of her father. “My dad wore glasses, and since he was legally blind, he would have very unique glasses,” she recalls. “So there are times when he’d hand me down items. For the longest time, I was wearing these super small spectacles...I thought they looked cool.” Hand-me-downs give off a sense of continuity, but King found meaning in her father’s old frames beyond their sentimental value. In them, she discovered a springboard to find her own sense of style, to see what worked and appealed to her.

For everyday use, she has a soft spot for classic Aviators; when she’s on the beach, she turns to sunglasses with polarised lenses. There’s a pair for every occasion and for every part of her life, and it is these pieces that make her who she is. She wears sunglasses for functionality over anything else, and her core selections include a pair from Ray-Ban and Gucci. “But if you made me choose, I would pick my Aviators. It’s my favourite look,” she remarks. “I don’t know if it’s because it’s the 90’s Top Gun look, but to me, [they] are quintessential.”
“I do outdoor living, I do workouts, I do water sports. That’s the fun part about fashion,” she muses. “Whichever weather or gender it is, there are so many choices depending on the occasion.”
It is this variety that draws her to the wide selection of luxury eyewear available at Eye Society. “Everyone has different face shapes, width,” she explains. “You want glasses that have your eyes in the centre. If I wear something too wide, and my eyes are [misaligned], it looks weird, right? It’s not symmetrical. So having a selection for different faces totally matters.”
