Samsung's latest wireless earbuds boast better sound quality with improved noise cancellation capability

I have a confession to make. I get easily distracted by sounds and noises while I’m working. If someone were to start talking around me, I would be unintentionally pulled into listening on the conversation and lose my focus.

So it's a really good thing that I have Galaxy Bud2 Pro (Buds2 Pro), the latest Samsung Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) wireless earbuds. If you are unfamiliar with ANC, it is a type of technology that cancels out background noise and allows you to enjoy your audio content to the fullest.

Here are five reasons why the Buds2 Pro are the flagship ANC wireless earbuds to beat this season and why it may be time for an upgrade.

Small and great for long hours of music listening

The Buds2 Pro has consistently improved over time and this year’s design is my favourite yet. Not only are they smaller than their predecessors, the improved design fits snugly in my ears.

They come in a matte, rubberised plastic case that is a gently rounded square shape. The case also has strong magnets that keep the lid shut, so I was assured that the buds won't fall out by accident. The buds match the case with the same matte appearance and rubberised texture. The only drawback is the plastic attracts dust.

I think it's excellent that the Buds2 Pro are IPX7 rated, meaning they are waterproof to an extent. They can survive a splash of water and even survive being immersed in up to one meter of water. They are ideal as a pair of workout earbuds, great for hitting the gym.

Comfort-wise, I find the buds are comfortable for hours of listening. The only downside is the lack of any stabiliser or hook to anchor the earbuds in the ear, so they may not be ideal for runners.

There is no shortage of ANC earbuds on the market now. Samsung’s Buds2 Pro confidently stands among the very best, improving its ANC performance significantly in the past year. It uses a combination of isolation and active noise cancelling to effectively filter out unwanted noise including the low rumbling noise of an airplane's engine or the hum of the air-conditioner.

Simply put, I am impressed by how the noise instantly melts away as soon as I slip them on.

That said, bear in mind that ANC earbuds are better at eliminating low, sustained sounds than higher frequency noise like someone talking or a barking dog.

Good music all around

As useful as it is, ANC isn’t everything because a pair of earbuds still need to deliver great sound quality. For this, Samsung has partnered with audio expert AKG to tune its Galaxy Buds series and the Buds2 Pro to have excellent sound.

Indeed, the Buds2 Pro has a good mixture of highs and mids that are pleasing without being too loud. Meanwhile, the bass is satisfyingly powerful without drowning other instruments out.

I put the Buds2 Pro through its paces, listening to a variety of music genres from EDM and R&B to classical and pop rock, and they all sound great.

On the phone, voice quality is good on the whole, with a level of noise cancelling that helps isolate your voice. One useful feature is the ambient sound mode when you are on a call, letting you talk as you walk.

Convenience at your fingertips

Besides sounding good, the Buds2 Pro offers a few handy features such the 'Find my device' feature that you can activate on Samsung’s Galaxy Wearables audio app. This feature saves the day when I misplace one of the earbuds. Activating it, the earbud emit a sound that help me track it down. If you are unsure where you even left your earbuds, there is the SmartThings Find location detection feature for help.

Another useful smart feature is voice detect which turns on the transparency mode when the built-in microphones detects someone speaking. This is great if you are working and a colleague is trying to get your attention, or if you are shopping and need to temporarily pause the music as you speak to the cashier.

Another nice bonus for Samsung users, particularly if you own one of their tablets, is the auto switch feature that pairs the earbuds to another device.
