Since its inception in 1970, Range Rover has remained a symbol of unparalleled sophistication. With its fifth-generation model, the SUV takes a bold step forward, redefining modernist design and elevating its status to the next echelon
Launched in 2022 the current Range Rover is a true design statement, combining modernity with the brand’s timeless elegance. Its sleek profile and harmonious proportions are instantly recognisable, yet they exude a fresh, contemporary aura. This exquisite balance of form and function is a testament to Range Rover’s commitment to aesthetic grace and minimalist sophistication.
Achieving this level of modernity required meticulous attention to detail. By reducing the number of joints and interfaces, the designers have created a seamless, flowing silhouette. The roofline, now 10mm lower, and the introduction of 23-inch alloy wheels—another first for Range Rover—bestow a commanding presence and a purposeful stance.

The rear view is perhaps the most striking, showcasing the modernist philosophy in full bloom. A single, crisp feature line defines the vehicle’s corners, catching the light in a way that emphasises its bold design. Vertical taillights encased in a Gloss Black panel remain hidden until illuminated, creating a clean, uninterrupted surface that will surely become a Range Rover signature.

New for 2024 is the Range Rover plug-in electric hybrid (PHEV), offering CO2 emissions as low as 16g/km and a pure-electric driving range of up to 94km. This impressive range means that typical Range Rover clients can complete up to 75 per cent of their trips using electric power alone, a significant step towards sustainable luxury. Range Rover offers two engine variants, the P550e featured in this review and a more affordable P440e with 440 PS.

The luxurious interior offers unparalleled customisation with the Autobiography and the top-of-the-range SV models, boasting up to 391 material colour options and 230 paint colours.
The cabin is a sanctuary of calm, integrating modern technologies with the finest materials and well-being innovations. The long wheelbase option introduces the first 3-row seating in a Range Rover, accommodating configurations from four to seven seats.
The interior is not only luxurious but also technologically advanced. The 1,600W Meridian Signature Sound System ensures one of the quietest in-car experiences, with additional 20W speakers in the headrests for immersive sound. The third-generation Active Noise Cancellation system uses 35 speakers to monitor and eliminate unwanted noise, creating personal quiet zones for all occupants.
The Pivi Pro infotainment system, now featuring a single 13.1-inch curved touchscreen, is the largest ever in a Range Rover. It offers intuitive control of major vehicle functions with a smartphone-inspired interface. Haptic feedback on the central display ensures drivers can interact with the system without taking their eyes off the road, enhancing both safety and convenience.

Range Rover’s pioneering approach to luxury SUVs continues with innovations like Dynamic Response Pro1 and a pre-emptive suspension system. The vehicle uses eHorizon Navigation data to read the road ahead, priming the suspension for optimal performance. In Comfort mode which smothers most road imperfections, the ride is superb.
The rear axle, capable of up to seven degrees of steering angle, significantly improves manoeuvrability, offering a turning circle of less than 11m—a huge boon in car parks with the vehicle being much wider than before. At higher speeds, the All-Wheel-Steering function enhances stability and comfort by turning in phase with the front wheels. There is a new 48-volt electronic roll control system that ensures the vehicle remains composed, even during dynamic driving.

While it is doubtful that owners would subject their expensive Range Rover to any off-road terrain, the car’s Terrain Response 2 system will still integrate various chassis systems to provide the perfect settings for any terrain, minimising driver workload. The plug-in hybrid engines, enhanced with a new 160kW electric motor, deliver impressive performance. The P550e model produces a combined total of 550PS and 800Nm of torque. This powertrain allows the vehicle to accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 5.0 seconds while maintaining low CO2 emissions.
With the fifth-generation Range Rover, luxury and innovation go hand in hand. The clever packaging of the battery ensures that both luggage space and all-terrain capability are not compromised. Meanwhile, the new Tailgate Event Suite takes outdoor relaxation to new heights, offering additional lighting, audio features, and tailored cushions for the perfect vantage point.
