In a special series for Volvo Car Malaysia, Lim Chin Han draws parallels between the nation and Volvo cars, which have been part of our history since the 1960s

The second in this two-part series sees Lim Chin Han, the managing director of Willis Towers Watson, sharing about the Volvo XC90 Recharge and relating it to protecting our future—both in terms of keeping his family (and others) safe and being environmentally friendly.

In fact, Volvo Car Malaysia has a longstanding history with our country, being among the first foreign investments—and the first carmaker—to enter the nation about a decade after Independence. On top of that, the Swedish carmaker’s commitment to electrification paves the way forward to a future with less carbon emissions.

This time around, Lim talks about the Volvo XC90 Recharge, a hybrid SUV model that makes for a great family car, especially in terms of spaciousness, comfort, safety, and design.

“A family car really must have enough space to begin with, and safety is an integral feature too, a bonus would be if it looks nice, but I think reliability is the most important thing,” shared the managing director and country head of WTW Malaysia. “And the Volvo XC90 Recharge ticks all the boxes, it's safe, surprisingly quick for its size, and the safety thing is paramount for me,” added Lim.

He also mentioned that the Volvo XC90 Recharge is perfect for long-distance trips, as safety is not compromised, and the levels of comfort are incomparable thanks to its size and spaciousness. Plus, there’s enough luggage space so everyone can pack all they need and more for the holiday.

Lim also added about the legacy of the cars he owns. “The perennial discussion with the wife is, ‘Why have all these cars?’ I think it’s an opportunity to give them a chance to own something special. In 15 or 20 years, these models would be even more difficult to come by. And so we will definitely pass it on to our children. In fact, they have already staked their claim on the Volvo P1800,” shared the father of two sons. He also mentioned that while at the moment they don’t know the true value and differences of the vehicles, they do appreciate their time spent in and around the cars, enjoying going for rides and such.

Apart from the vehicles he plans to leave his children, he also wants them to experience a better Malaysia. “This is a hope more than anything else for my sons, that [Malaysia] is a place that continues to flourish and creates opportunities for my children to be who they can be, and as inclusive as possible. We need to recognise that we are who we are, and our potential is thanks to the diversity we have, and as long as we respect every other race and diverse people we have, that's the best thing we can hope for,” says Lim.

Of course, part of making Malaysia better also includes taking care of its environment, which is what Volvo has pledged to do. On top of their production of electric vehicles, Volvo buyers locally would be glad to know that their decision is also an eco-conscious one as there is less carbon footprint involved, thanks to the fact that Volvo cars are locally produced.
