Tatler Hong Kong’s resident car enthusiast takes a ride in the Huracán STO. Here she tells us how she found it and whether it’s worth its price tag
It has been more than a year since Lamborghini revealed the new Huracán STO, (Super Trofeo Omologata) with a V10 naturally aspirated 640hp engine that takes just 3.0 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/h. And at last, the first demo car just pulled in to Hong Kong. About time, too, considering there are already three Huracán STOs seen in the city.
I was lucky enough to get a glimpse of the Huracán STO in person, and its lime green exterior wasn’t the only thing eye-catching about this vehicle. Although, I must say the excellent shade made my brain pause for a few moments before I came to and hopped in the car.
Once settled comfortably into its sleek, plush leather interior, I had a closer look at the details and attention to detail. Aligning with the rare car type, “STO” is engraved in different parts of the car such as the left part of the body, chairs, instrument cluster and more. Note: these details are only limited to STO, not all of the Huracáns.

There are three driving modes and I started with STO instead of Trofeo (for racing) or Pioggia (for rainy conditions). I stepped on the accelerator gently and drove from Star Street in Wan Chai to Clear Water Bay through the Eastern Corridor, East Kowloon Tunnel and Tseung Kwan O tunnel. The ride was way bumpier than I had expected and the Lamborghini shook strongly when it was driving over some of the city’s deteriorating roads. Having said that, some may argue that the beautiful exterior and interior designs are enough to outweigh any level of discomfort.
Unsurprisingly, the height of the carbon-fibre seats is not adjustable, a bit of a problem for this lady who is approximately 160cm tall. From my perspective, it was impossible to see the front of the car, only the road ahead—not great for when I’d need to park the car. With such challenges, is the Huracán STO worth it for the sake of an acclaimed driving experience? Thus far in the drive, it did seem like a “no” to me.

Not to worry, it was a completely different story after I arrived at Clear Water Bay. On decent roads, the car was so sensitive and reactive to the speed I desired. It was exhilarating and felt like a roller coaster, and the vehicle let out the best exhaust noise going uphill or downhill. And thanks to Lamborghini’s carbon-lightweight technology on STO, which reduces 43 kg in weight compared to Huracán Performant. It leaned on fast corners so smoothly.
Last but not least, the new CCM-R braking system, designed to be ultra sensitive and responsive, gave me all the confidence I needed to take my time and brake only at the very last second. For over two hours, I imagined myself driving a formula one car like Lewis Hamilton at the British Grand Prix, because that’s exactly what driving this car feels like.

In all honesty, Lamborghini’s Huracán STO is definitely not made for a city like Hong Kong. Instead, you would want to consider it for the countryside or more spacious areas where it can really shine. Priced from HK$5,799,000 (tax-inclusive), it’s undeniably worth the investment should you be an avid car collector, since there are only limited numbers of this model available for purchase. Not to mention the possibility of European countries getting rid of combustion engines in the future, an active conversation currently taking place in that part of the world.
The only question you need to ask yourself is: would you go for the promise of excitement over comfort?
