Acer is one of the world’s top ICT companies that puts sustainability at the forefront of every decision

From innovative products like the latest Acer Chromebook Vero 514 which integrates 30 percent of post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastics into its design to recycled packaging and renewable energy, Acer is in it for the long haul where environmental sustainability is concerned.

Its commitment to the planet is reflected in extensive programmes like Project Humanity, established in 2017 to mobilise Acer employees globally towards eco-friendly initiatives in line with its green philosophy. Then recognising that the greatest environmental impact is only possible by extending this green movement outside the company to its supply chain and partner network, Acer launched the Earthion programme in 2021 and joined forces with industry players, doing its part to reduce the tech industry's harmful impacts on the environment.

That same year, Acer’s Vero green line of products was unveiled, including the eco-friendly and upgradeable Acer Aspire Vero, a pioneering laptop with a chassis composed of 30 per cent PCR plastic, keycaps containing 50 per cent PCR plastic and 100 per cent recyclable packaging that could be repurposed into a DIY laptop stand.

The latest Acer Chromebook Vero 514 joins this impressive line of sustainability-driven products, also using 30 per cent PCR plastic in its chassis and incorporating recycled ocean-bound plastic in its OceanGlass touchpad. Its exterior features a paint-free chassis with a cobblestone gray finish and a display panel that is 99 per cent recyclable.

The new chromebook’s design has sustainability at its core too, crafted to have an extended lifespan that minimises environmental impact. Thanks to standard screws placed on the bottom cover, repairing or upgrading the Acer Chromebook Vero 514 is a more simplified process.

Built to last and not exacerbate the global e-waste problem, the device boasts military-grade durability and is independently MIL-STD-810H verified (a standard derived since the 1950s from the US military for testing the lifetime durability of equipment).

Acer has joined the global RE100 initiative with a goal to expand its current 45 per cent renewal energy usage to 100 per cent renewal energy by 2035. The company’s commitment to the planet and ESG (environmental, social and governance) initiatives is grounded in reality, with measurable long-term targets and programmes in place to gradually make sustainability a reality across its business operations.

As Acer chairman and CEO, Jason Chen, fittingly said: “Sustainability is not just for the environment, but for business itself. ESG does not have to be a huge cost. We can create value and business through ESG.”
