Mercedes-Benz introduces two new models that are perfectly suited for city driving

Mercedes-Benz recently launched two new compact cars: The A250 AMG Line sedan and GLA 250 AMG Line SUV. The two new cars are among the Stuttgart based automaker’s best-selling models and they are now locally assembled in Pekan, Pahang.

Leading the charge for the new A-Class is the A250 AMG, a compact sedan that offers high-performance, extra sporty handling, and stylish aesthetics all in one package. If you're looking for a premium luxury SUV with larger dimensions complete with an impressive boot space, the GLA 250 AMG fits the bill perfectly.

Here's what you need to know about Mercedes-Benz's latest models.

The A250 AMG offers the allure of a luxury compact sedan with aggressive angles for that sporty yet sophisticated look. The latest A-Class sedan maintains its avant-garde looks with the three-pointed star at the front being the central attraction. With the AMG Line, it clearly signals that this sedan means business and performance, both inside and out. The AMG body styling comes with special front and rear aprons that make it look more like Mercedes-Benz's AMG models.

The side profile looks dynamic yet timelessly elegant as it shows off the A250 AMG’s sports sedan proportions, featuring a long nose and short tail. In addition, the sedan rides on 18-inch AMG alloy wheels and is engineered with a lowered, sportily tuned suspension for dynamic handling.

Under the bonnet, the A250 AMG is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that generates a decent amount of output for a compact car. It is rated to have a max output of 165 kW (224 hp) at 5,500rpm and a peak torque of 350 Nm at 1800rpm. All this power enables the sedan to complete a 0-100km/h sprint in just 6.3 seconds and a top speed of 250km/h.

Mercedes-Benz has revolutionised the A250 AMG's interior design by taking some cues from its mainstream models. It retains its metal decor, flat-bottomed steering wheel, alloy pedal, and ambient lighting as well as power-adjustable front seats with a memory function. The feature stores not only your seat position but also your side-view mirror position and your steering wheel position in its memory.

The wing-shaped main body of the dashboard extends from one front door to the other, giving it a sense of continuity. In line with the sedan’s sporty exterior, even the air vents look like turbines.

Rounding out the smart features is MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) with twin 12.3-inch displays that enhance the ability of the driver to access all the crucial functions of the car from navigation, entertainment to changing the dynamic driving modes.

Other convenient features include keyless entry, push-button start, auto lights and wipers, blind spot monitoring, park assist, and a reverse camera.

Featuring a poised and commanding appearance thanks to its distinctive AMG-inspired grille and AMG body styling with the AMG rear apron that reinforces its attractive sporty appearance, the front section flows over the A-pillar into the visually compact greenhouse.

Riding on 19-inch size wheels to get around, the GLA 250 AMG is ideal for city life as it has a shorter length and is compact enough to get into tight parking spots as well as navigate narrow lanes. It helps that it gets a lower and dynamically tuned suspension that enhances the overall driving experience.

It comes powered by an M260 2.0 litre-turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is rated to deliver 224 PS at 5,500 rpm and 350 Nm of torque. The SUV comes with a new eight-speed DCT and can make the century sprint in a brisk 6.9 seconds, hitting a top speed of 240km/h.

Inside, the new GLA offers a spacious interior that combines a sense of space, high tech and sportiness. The driver's cockpit offers a flowing modern design with the familiar MBUX infotainment system with twin 10.25-inch instruments and infotainment displays. The sport seats offer optimal comfort behind the sports steering wheel with a flattened bottom section that is made of fine Nappa leather.

You will find sports front seats and light longitudinal-grain aluminium trim. The compact SUV has a flat-bottomed steering wheel, paddle shifters and AMG illuminated tread plates as well as a remote engine start function. The elevated seating position for both the driver and front passenger is both higher and more upright than previous models.

As a compact SUV, you get the best of both worlds. The GLA 250 AMG’s is great for ferrying people and for hauling large items when the need arises. The 435-litre boot is generously large and can be expanded even more thanks to the rear back seats being able to fold down individually in a 40:20:40 split.
