Cover The hotel’s Caroline’s Mansion ballroom, named in honour of the founding family’s matriarch, exudes pure luxury

In planning the perfect wedding, the expert team at The St Regis Singapore, with its dreamy ballrooms and bespoke service, ensures that your big day is replete with moments to cherish for a lifetime

The heritage of The St Regis Singapore, which is synonymous with luxury and celebrations, has always been rooted in the spirit of New York socialite Caroline Astor, the matriarch of the St Regis brand’s founding family. During the Gilded Age in the late 1800s, she ruled the scene with her legendary parties and balls that gathered the city’s most influential and powerful figures under one roof, and saw long wait lists of folks who wanted a peek into this prestigious society. It is the hotel brand’s reputation built over centuries of throwing the most lavish and extraordinary events that makes The St Regis Singapore the choicest wedding venue for many couples in Singapore—myself and my partner included.

From my initial consultation with Christine Wang, the hotel’s assistant director of events who has been helping couples plan their dream weddings at The St Regis Singapore for more than a decade, it is evident that bespoke service is built into the core of each and every staff member. You won’t hear of any bridezillas at The St Regis Singapore, as each couple gets a dedicated bridal assistant who will ensure that everything is taken care of on the big day—“We’re one of the first hotels to offer the butler service for couples,” Wang shares. Speaking of the big day, she asks us what kind of wedding we have in mind, to which we reply: “A small wedding for about 100 guests that combines Asian and Western cultures, from the food down to the design.”

For a smaller wedding ceremony, Wang recommends Caroline’s Mansion, a ballroom named in honour of the founding family’s matriarch that can comfortably fit 100 to 140 guests for a sit‑down dinner. The beautiful space—which has its own dedicated entrance and foyer for ultimate privacy—exudes luxury with design elements such as a high ceiling, grand chandeliers and European‑style textured walls that take cues from Astor’s original home in Manhattan, New York. And for women like me, who have been dreaming about making a grand entrance walking down the stairs—just like in romantic movies—it is possible to do just that at Caroline’s Mansion, which is furnished with a dreamy Juliet balcony overlooking the space as well as a grand staircase. “It’s a very private and exclusive space,” Wang assures us, which is what we envision having for our dream wedding.

Caroline’s Mansion’s selling point for us, too, is its individuality, which can fit a stage perfect for a more formal and traditional wedding programme with speeches by the bride and groom, or even a dance floor where the spotlight will be on us for that much‑awaited first dance in front of friends and family. The choice is ours, reiterates Wang, on how we want our day to be, and her team is there to ensure it is what we have always dreamt of.

Like most weddings go, there is always a high chance that our guest list will get longer, as more friends and family members want to join in our special day. To cater to a bigger ceremony, Wang suggests the John Jacob Ballroom that can accommodate 250 to 380 guests. Named after the founder of the St Regis brand—who was known for his impeccable taste—the spacious yet intimate ballroom is the true definition of timeless elegance, with hand‑cut crystal chandeliers illuminating the pillarless space with a high ceiling and impressive skylights. Another advantage of the John Jacob Ballroom is the direct access to a luxurious bridal suite in which couples can stay for one night—on the house.

The John Jacob Ballroom offers the same privacy as Caroline’s Mansion with its soundproof doors and double‑layered partition. It is also fitted with a drop‑down LCD projector and screen—handy for when we take guests on a trip down memory lane through photographs and videos of us over the years—as well as a sophisticated audio‑visual system.

Whichever ballroom we choose, Wang shares that we can easily customise the space—from the table arrangements (long tables instead of round ones, for example) to the flower displays (in whatever colours we favour), and the format of our wedding dinner. For the last, we go with Wang’s expert advice of having a sit‑down dinner of five or six courses instead of buffet style, which we originally planned, because, as Wang explains, “your guests will be well dressed on that night” and they can just sit back and enjoy the evening while each course is served at their table by the hotel’s capable service staff.

When my partner and I started discussing marriage, it seemed like it was going to be a stressful road ahead, with all the planning and smallest details to take care of in ensuring fond memories of our big day that last a lifetime. But after our initial discussion with Wang, we immediately feel at ease, knowing we have a capable team guiding us every step of the way. For brides‑ and grooms‑to‑be, this is how you want to start your journey together.
