Singapore’s favourite TV shows of 2022: Which haven’t you watched?

The hit South Korean dating show has cooked up a storm in friend groups. Island living has never been better as nine attractive singles gather to find that special spark. Potentially stuck in “Inferno”, these singles must form a connection with another and select each other to go to “Paradise”.

Based on a popular webtoon of the same name, Business Proposal is a South-Korean romantic comedy series. Starring Ahn Hyo-seop, Kim Se-jeong, Kim Min-gue, and Seol In-ah, sit back and have a good laugh at the antics of the characters. A handsome heir and live-in-the-moment love interest? Yes, please.  

This series was the talk of the town when it aired in June 2022. Focused on the titular character Woo Young-woo, a lawyer with autism spectrum disorder, Extraordinary Attorney Woo orchestrates the discussion on disability representation in television. Fall in love with Woo’s endearing personality as she battles a myriad of legal cases with gusto. 

Long-running American supernatural drama television series Manifest has been on the silver screen since 2018. Starring Melissa Roxburgh and Josh Dallas among many others, the series is a chilling story of a flight who suddenly reappears after having been missing for five and a half years. The passengers and crew of the flight return to wholly different lives whilst experiencing eerie voices and visions.

Yet another Marvel Studio product, Moon Knight is an American miniseries for the streaming service Disney+. Based on the Marvel Comics with a character of the same name. Starring Oscar Issac as Moon Knight/ Marc Spector, the series involves Egyptian gods, mystery, and a focus on dissociative identity disorder (DID).  

This American science fiction horror drama series was all the rage in 2016 when the first season was aired on Netflix. Season four of Stranger Things aired in July 2022 and saw the familiar faces of Millie Bobby Brown and Finn Wolfhard back on screen. Set primarily in a fictional town, the series follows a string of mysterious events that occur and how the characters deal with these. 

American teen drama series Euphoria was an instant hit the moment it was released and has since become a pop culture phenomenon that has inspired countless memes on social media. Starring Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, Alexa Demie, and Sydney Sweeney, the series premiered in 2019, with its second season released in 2022. Throughout the high school drama series, topics such as drug abuse, toxic relationships, hookup culture, and mental illness are at the forefront—making the show rather controversial to some. 

Starring Lee Jae-wook and Jung So-min, Alchemy of Souls found its way into our binge-watch list when it premiered in June 2022. The South Korean fantasy drama series is set in the fictional country of Daeho and follows the lives and romances of the young mages who inhabit the area. Initially unfamiliar with one another, the mages soon become intertwined as they band together to combat the slowly brewing chaos.

Inspired by the story of Anna Sorokin, a con artist and fraudster, Inventing Anna was released on Netflix in February 2022. With titular character Anna played by Julia Garner, the series tells of how Anna Sorokin was able to single-handedly con a majority of New York City elite into believing she was a German heiress. Discover the limits of human intelligence and gullibility as Anna works (untruthfully) towards her goal of opening an art-themed club.
