Stylist PJ Pascual celebrates his last birthday in New York before moving back to the Philippines
After 25 years of living in New York City, style baron PJ Pascual decided to move back to the Philippines this year to take over the family business and to spend more time with his mother and family. “I have been away for too long and thinks it’s about time to pack up and go home,” Pascual says.
Pascual is grateful for all the people who supported his career in fashion. He feels indebted to them because they moulded him to be the person he is today. The celebrant’s final birthday in the Big Apple was inspired by the hit Apple TV show, Palm Royale. Set in the late Sixties in Palm Beach, he was drawn to the prints and the colourful ensemble of Kristen Wiig and the entire cast.

On April 19, Josie Natori was kind enough to lend her home as the venue of Pascual’s birthday party. Natori’s right hand, Mercy Aldea, decorated her apartment with pink flowers. Natori’s home is a mecca of great food. Mercy and her staff prepared a variety of Asian dumplings and her special dish pancit bihon.
Pascual was thrilled that the guests arrived dressed in their own interpretation of the show. One guest in particular, Vera Wang, went all out. She rarely wears prints, but for this occasion, she kept her black and white colour combination and opted for a long Emilio Pucci dress. To glam up her wardrobe, she added a fox fur stole perfect for the fun evening. Indeed, she is the Queen of Palm Royale. Guests like Brent Neale, Amory McAndrew, Janis Savitt, Meghan Klopp and Carla Villacorta followed the Queen’s footsteps

Like Natori, Pascual considers Lily O’Boyle and Gail Alvarez to be his New York mothers. They made sure that he is on track with everything and that he’s well-behaved. Out of their busy schedules, American Ballet Theater Principal Dancers Christine Shevchenko and Gillian Murphy also made time to join the festivities.
“New York taught me everything I need to know. Because of this great city, I became strong, humble, wise and independent. My journey wasn’t easy, but it was worth every minute. I am proud to say that I am a native New Yorker. Thank you for everything!” said Pascual.
