This is what Filipino Barbie fans’ wildest dreams are made of
From actors Margot Robbie, Issa Rae, and Ryan Gosling, to artists Dua Lipa and Nikki Minaj, the world premiere of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles was surely star-studded. But for Filipino Barbie fans, Ana Cruz Kayne stole the show.
The Filipino-Jewish actress, who stars in said movie as Supreme Court Justice Barbie, arrived on the pink carpet in a shining all-pink ensemble. The most remarkable part of her outfit is the pink coconut terno top created by renowned Filipino fashion designer Dennis Lustico. Styled by PJ Pascual, the top is partnered with a Herve Leger metallic fringe gown, Angara Jewellery rings, and Stuart Weitzman silver shoes.

Lustico says the actress requested to wear something Filipino for the big day. Los Angeles-based stylist Nikko Panti, who facilitated the transport of the terno, recounts, “Coming into the project, Ana already wanted to wear a Terno for the world premiere to give tribute to her Filipino heritage. I was tapped to complete the look that Dennis sent.”
The stylist added, “It makes me so proud to see a Filipino Terno on the red—or should I say, pink—carpet of a major studio film that everyone is excited to see.”
In a recent interview, the Little Women actress said that she didn’t grow up playing with Barbie because the doll is a “perfect blonde girl” she cannot relate with. “I grew up sort of a tomboy in a mixed-race family, and I didn’t engage with Barbie,” Cruz Kayne says. During her audition for the role, she got her first Barbie doll. Fortunately, she successfully got the part.
Catch Cruz Kayne as the Supreme Court Justice Barbie. The said Greta Gerwig film opens in Philippine cinemas on July 19.
