In just a few years, actor Leo Woodall has gone from newcomer to global heartthrob and the next big thing.
He first caught people’s attention as Jack, the seedy lothario from Essex who seduces Haley Lu Richardson’s Portia in the second season of the critically acclaimed HBO series The White Lotus. But it’s his role in the 2024 Netflix adaptation of David Nicholls’ hugely popular bestselling novel One Day that earned him internet boyfriend status overnight.
And as the titular boy in the recently released Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, the fourth and final Bridget Jones movie, he makes hearts flutter all over again and proves what the internet has known all along—he is romantic lead material.
In his latest project, Prime Target, out now on Apple TV+, he plays a super mathematician who goes on the run from government agencies and shadowy organisations after his mathematical discovery turns out to be the ultimate digital code cracker.

While The White Lotus isn’t his first project, playing Jack, the seemingly carefree Essex lad with a sinister secret, is undoubtedly Woodall’s breakout role. As season two’s resident charmer, he has to fool poor Portia—and in turn, the audience—into believing that he is nothing more than a fun and harmless holiday fling when, in fact, he has something dastardly up his sleeve. Portraying this masterful sleight of hand proved that Woodall has the skills to blend charm with menace.

If White Lotus put him on the map, One Day catapulted him to global recognition. In the Netflix limited-series adaptation, Woodall stars as the charming but flawed Dexter Mayhew opposite Ambika Mod’s intelligent and ambitious Emma Morley. The two have a charming first encounter and, after a night of not sleeping together, form an unlikely but deep friendship that will keep them in each other’s orbits for the next 20 years.
Woodall and Mod’s chemistry is incredible, the kind that creates the aching and longing required of a will-they, won’t-they love story. The acting is also top-notch, with both bringing a raw vulnerability to their parts. The scene where a devastated Dexter leaves a voicemail for Emma impressed both the audience and critics alike, and firmly established Woodall as one to watch.

Mark Darcy’s (Colin Firth) shoes are so big it takes two men to fill them in the fourth and final instalment of the Bridget Jones movie franchise, but Woodall, as 28-year-old Roxster, is more than ready to give it a go. In the movie, Roxster welcomes Bridget to the digital era of dating with flirting, romantic dates, intimate moments, pies and a memorable dip in a pool. Sweet and gentle, he is exactly what Bridget needs to move forward.
But the age gap eventually gets in the way and Bridget ends up instead with Chiwetel Ejiofor’s steady science teacher, Mr Wallaker. Roxster may not have gotten the girl in the end, but it all works out for Woodall, who now has a legion of fans eager to see him in more romantic lead roles.

Proving that you can never have too much of a good thing, Woodall appears in Apple TV+’s just-released conspiracy thriller Prime Target. He plays Edward Brooks, a Cambridge postgrad math student on the brink of a major discovery, one that has the potential to crack every digital code on the planet. This makes government agencies and shadowy organisations very nervous, forcing him to go on the run. Math and espionage hardly go hand in hand, but Prime Target manages to make it work, with Woodall and co-star Quintessa Swindell making the series fun and easy to watch.
