15 years after Marina Bay Sands redefined Singapore’s skyline, Las Vegas Sands breaks ground on its most ambitious project yet—a soaring 570-suite luxury tower crowned by a 76,000-square-foot Skyloop, promising unparalleled 360-degree Marina Bay views and Asia’s premier entertainment destination

Singapore, already a dynamic hub of luxury and innovation, is poised for an even grander future with the recent groundbreaking of Las Vegas Sands’ substantial US$8 billion ultra-luxury development. The momentous occasion took place on Tuesday evening (July 15) with Singapore’s Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong, officiating alongside Minister for Sustainability and the Environment and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations Grace Fu, Las Vegas Sands co-founder Dr Miriam Adelson, Las Vegas Sands chairman and chief executive officer Robert Goldstein, and president and chief operating officer Patrick Dumont.

More than 220 guests attended the groundbreaking event, which saw captivating performances by homegrown artist Jasmine Sokko and Canadian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Henry Lau. In celebration of SG60, Marina Bay Sands also unveiled its cinematic tribute to the nation—a commissioned film titled, Nothing Comes By Chance, by local director Kirsten Tan, featuring prominent Singaporean talents including Sokko, actor Tan Kheng Hua and her daughter Lim Shi-An, Olympic swimmer Quah Zheng Wen and actor Pierre Png.

15 years since the iconic Marina Bay Sands first graced the Singaporean landscape, setting a global benchmark for integrated resorts, this new expansion aims to carry forward Sheldon G. Adelson’s original vision, elevating it to unprecedented heights.

Unveiling ‘A World Beyond’

The design, once again envisioned by the acclaimed Safdie Architects led by Moshe Safdie—the very firm behind Marina Bay Sands’ distinctive profile—is set to be an architectural feat. The new development will feature a soaring 570-suite luxury hotel tower, crowned with signature rooftop experiences and sophisticated dining. Imagine waking to sweeping panoramic views of Marina Bay or the Singapore Strait, with the tower itself thoughtfully rotated at a 45-degree angle to frame these breathtaking vistas.

At its pinnacle lies the revolutionary 76,000-square-foot Skyloop—a captivating haven of both public and private spaces. Unique in its conception, the Skyloop’s form is defined by overlapping elliptical volumes that spiral in opposing directions, imbuing the structure with a dynamic quality and affording uninterrupted 360-degree views. Here, one will discover an observatory, exquisite destination restaurants, and lush rooftop gardens accessible to the public. Hotel guests, meanwhile, will enjoy more secluded experiences, from private cabanas to infinity-edge pools and a cantilevered wellness terrace designed for yoga and bespoke events.

Beyond the striking hotel, the development will encompass luxury retail boutiques, gaming facilities, comprehensive spa and wellness amenities, and approximately 200,000 square feet of premium meeting space. A particular highlight is the purpose-built 15,000-seat arena, situated against the stunning Marina Bay backdrop. Designed by the global firm Populous—responsible for venues such as the Sphere in Las Vegas and London’s O2 Arena—this state-of-the-art arena promises unparalleled acoustics and sightlines, poised to become Asia's premier destination for high-calibre regional and international live entertainment. This seamlessly integrated venue will also offer direct access to Bayfront MRT station and convenient linkways to Gardens by the Bay, ensuring effortless connectivity.

Greener Horizons and Economic Contributions

In keeping with contemporary priorities, sustainability is integral to this expansion. The new building will thoughtfully integrate biophilic designs and a significant proportion of green amenities, drawing inspiration from Singapore's abundant urban greenery. Innovative approaches, such as a self-shading façade system and high-performance glazing, are being explored to minimise direct solar heat transfer and improve energy efficiency. Each suite will boast its own private terrace and garden, while outdoor dining venues will be fitted with canopies to shield guests from the elements. Even the selection of tree species will pay homage to the region, with native Southeast Asian varieties planted where feasible.

From a construction standpoint, best practices are being adopted, including the use of materials with reduced environmental impact, such as low-carbon concrete and recycled steel, alongside a robust construction waste management plan aiming to divert at least 75 per cent of waste from landfills.

Marina Bay Sands has long been a significant contributor to Singapore’s economy, directly employing over 12,000 team members and spending 92 per cent of its procurement with local businesses in 2024. These figures are expected to grow further with this expansion.

This new development, truly “A World Beyond”, is more than just an architectural marvel as it emphasises Singapore’s status as a global tourism powerhouse and Las Vegas Sands’ continued commitment to its future.
