Popular South Korean drama Queen of Tears has been taking the world by storm, ranking in the global Top 10 TV series on Netflix. The series has also quickly become the second highest-rated drama on the South Korean nationwide television channel tvN, surpassing previous records set by Crash Landing on You (2019) and Goblin (2016).
On top of a captivating storyline, the ongoing drama is also loved for the impeccable performance by lead actress Kim Ji-won. Starring as Hong Hae-in in the romantic comedy, Kim has been widely praised for her portrayal of the ice-cold character.

The Heirs
One of Kim’s first K-dramas, the 2013 series sees her play privileged heiress Rachel Yoo. Kim has been praised for her portrayal of a vulnerable yet fierce character. She was also applauded for her dynamic chemistry with her co-stars including Boys Over Flowers’s Lee Min-ho and Miracle in Cell No. 7’s Park Shin-hye.
Descendants of the Sun
In this popular 2016 blockbuster drama, Kim played strong-willed army doctor Yoon Myeong-ju. Throughout the series, we see Yoon explore a romantic relationship with captain Yoo Shi-jin (played by Song Joong-ki). Kim has won multiple awards for her role in this drama, including the Excellence Award at the 2016 KBS Drama Awards.
Fight for My Way
Kim plays Choi Ae-ra in this best friends-to-lovers K-drama. In this series, Choi dreams of becoming a news anchor while her long-time friend Ko Dong-man (Park Seo-joon) struggles to succeed in his career. We see the duo’s friendship blossom into a romantic relationship.
Arthdal Chronicles
In Korea’s first ancient fantasy drama, Kim plays Tanya, a fierce warrior with a quest for justice and freedom. The series is set in the mythical land of Arth and stars Friend’s Jang Dong-gun, Blackpink’s Jisoo and Vincenzo’s Song Joong-ki.
My Liberation Notes
This 2022 series follows three siblings who are seeking a change from their monotonous day-to-day life in a small town. Kim plays Yeom Mi-jeong, the youngest sibling and an employee at a credit card company. She has been praised for portraying the character’s quiet unhappiness, even with a lack of dialogue.
