From Twilight to The Batman, Robert Pattinson has proved himself to be one of the most versatile actors this generation has seen. Below, we round up eight of his best films to date

To most, Robert Pattinson is probably known as the actor who played the brooding 100-year-old vampire Edward Cullen in the hit series The Twilight Saga. Almost a decade ago, Pattinson was the poster boy whose face was plastered on every teenage girl’s room. Though the movie is arguably what launched the actor into stardom, it has been a haunting curse which has eclipsed his acting. And for a very long time, he has been given the reputation as an actor capable only of doing vampire flicks.

First up on the list and probably our personal favourite is The Lighthouse. Set in the 1890s, the psychological thriller stars Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe as two lighthouse keepers who descend into insanity after a storm leaves them stranded on a remote island.  A must-watch for all horror movie buffs, Pattinson’s performance in The Lighthouse is simply phenomenal and one of the best in all of his acting career. The hypnotic and visceral film is bound to keep you on your toes throughout the whole two-hour duration. Disorienting yet cinematic, the film is shot entirely in black and white, which adds to the unforgettable experience. The movie will provide you with a sensorial cinematic experience that will make the lengthy duration worthwhile.

2. The King

In this adaptation of Shakespeare’s Henriad produced by Netflix, Pattinson plays the psychopathic French Prince, Dauphin of France. Though his character is only introduced in the later part of the film, the maniacal Dauphin may just be the most memorable part of the movie. Putting on a ludicrous French accent and a shaggy blonde wig for the role, the flamboyant madman is truly the scene-stealer of The King. His engaging and refreshing performance of Dauphin in the movie neatly displays his versatility in acting, portraying the vicious prince with such acute accuracy.

An action film revolving around international espionage and time travel, the movie follows a secret agent who learns to manipulate the flow of time to prevent an attack from the future that threatens to annihilate all in the present time. A movie that will blow you away with its puzzling sci-fi concepts and stunning visual effects, Pattinson’s character is simply charming in this time-bending film. Just like you would expect of a Christoper Nolan movie, Tenet is based on an incredibly complicated premise, that even Pattinson admitted he struggled to grasp during the many months of filming. Pattinson plays Neil, an agent from the future who is trying to save the present world. Tenet is guaranteed to serve up a visceral spectacle that will leave you mind-boggled at the end of the film.

One of the earlier and more notable roles he has played, Pattinson played the boyish character Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in the early days of his acting career. Earlier fans of Pattinson will definitely remember his iconic portrayal of the dreamy prefect from Hufflepuff, who was chosen to represent Hogwarts in the inter-school Triwizard Tournament. In this movie, Pattinson proved that taking on a charismatic boy-next-door character poses as no difficult feat to him.

In this 2012 movie, a wealthy currency speculator, played by Pattinson, spirals into self-destruction as he watches his life’s work unravel in the span of a single day.   Pattinson is always very committed to playing his character well, and does no less in this movie. His portrayal of this character Eric Packer is so wonderfully and realistically done that the protagonist’s descent into desolation is somewhat chilling to witness in the theatre. Adapted from the novel by Don DeLillo, this film marks the first of Pattinson’s collaborations with acclaimed director David Cronenberg.

Co-starring Julianne Moore, Maps to the Stars is a social commentary on Hollywood's relationship with American civilisation. Following Cosmopolis, this film is the second collaboration between Robert Pattinson and director David Cronenberg. In this second collaboration between the two, Pattinson plays the character Jerome Fontana, an aspiring actor struggling to make it big. Though Pattinson does not have a lot of screen time in this satirical film, his performance as the character Jerome is one that is very realistic and raw.
