At the K-Star Spark in Vietnam 2025 concert, held on the evening of 21 June, DPR Ian took to the stage alongside major names including the “K-pop king” G-Dragon. His performance was met with immediate enthusiasm from the audience and has since become a viral moment across Vietnamese social media.

While he may not yet boast a vast fan base in Vietnam, DPR Ian stood out with his striking looks and captivating musical style, quickly earning the crowd’s affection.

Adding to the excitement, his approachable and cheerful demeanour made waves, especially when he engaged with fans in Vietnamese. A particularly touching moment captured on video showed him stepping off the stage to kiss a female audience member’s hand, sending the internet into a frenzy. Since then, interest in DPR Ian and his work has surged, thanks to the resounding impact of his appearance at K-Star Spark in Vietnam 2025.

DPR Ian: The journey of perseverance through music

DPR Ian, born Christian Yu, grew up in Australia in a Korean household. Years later, he returned to Korea, driven by a passion for music and a determination to make his mark in K-pop. In 2012, he debuted as the leader of the boy group C-Clown, under the management of Yedang Entertainment.

In a past interview, he spoke openly about the intense training that preceded his debut, a regimen demanding both time and personal sacrifice. He noted that stepping into the world of Korean idols meant giving up a great deal of freedom and privacy.

Yet with Yedang being a relatively modest company, C-Clown faced limitations in reaching a broader audience. After three years together, the group officially disbanded. But DPR Ian remained steadfast. Rather than stepping away from music, he teamed up with like-minded creatives Live, REM and Cream to found Dream Perfect Regime, an independent label aiming to carve a path distinct from the standard K-pop system.

Since then, DPR Ian has gradually built a unique presence within Korea’s music scene, notably working as a director for music videos by top-tier artists, including Body (Mino – WINNER) and Wake Me Up (TaeYang – BIGBANG). He’s also appeared in several MVs himself, such as IU’s Shopper, and has maintained warm professional ties with many of his collaborators.

Rather than follow the upbeat and easily digestible formula common among boy bands, DPR Ian has leaned into a darker, indie pop sound. Since founding Dream Perfect Regime, he has consistently pursued this genre. Tracks like Don’t Go Insane, So Beautiful, and No Blueberries (feat. DPR Live and CL) exemplify his signature style. His visuals and fashion follow suit: powerful, free-spirited, masculine, yet laced with an enigmatic and sometimes cool allure. It’s a direction that may not appeal to everyone, but DPR Ian is steadily cementing his place in Korea’s fiercely competitive music scene.

His performance at K-Star Spark in Vietnam 2025 took audiences by surprise. Here was an artist with arresting visuals, a unique voice, and a performance style both polished and personal. His energy on stage was palpable, his outfit accentuating his toned physique, earning him even more admiration. When the rain began to fall, it didn’t dampen the mood. If anything, it elevated the moment, making his performance even more powerful and memorable.
