From his love for jazz music to foray into K-drama acting, get to know the charismatic BTS member V
As six out of the seven BTS members return from the military, they are ready to make a group comeback that fans have been awaiting for two years. During this time, each member was able to explore their solo projects, allowing them to develop their artistic voices. One such member is V, the stage name of Kim Taehyung. Among the younger members of the group, Taehyung is known for his bubbly personality and baritone voice.

His debut in BTS was serendipitous

At the age of fifteen, V accompanied a friend to an audition at Big Hit Entertainment. At the time, he had no plans of auditioning, but an executive encouraged him to audition. He called his parents, who encouraged him to take a chance since he was there already. He ended up passing the audition, not knowing he’d one day become a global superstar through BTS.
He is interested in art and photography

V is known for his deep interest in art and photography. One of his favourite photographers is the Sydney-based minimalist photographer, Ante Badzim. He also enjoys going to art galleries, like the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art in New York City and the Art Institute of Chicago.
He loves wearing luxury brands

Known for his vintage, boyish charm, Gucci and Celine have been the perfect complement to V’s style. V often brings his Gucci bag to the airport during tours, wearing vibrant, printed suits from the illustrious brand. In more casual moments, he is often seen wearing T-shirts from Celine to unwind after a long day.

He is a fan of jazz music

According to the members of BTS, V enjoys listening to music the most. Jazz is one of his favourite genres to listen to, especially artists like Bing Crosby, Louis Armstrong, Ruben Studdard and Eric Benet. He was also inspired by artists like Sammy Davis, Jr, for his performance in Dynamite. During the Festa celebration in 2023, V unveiled a live performance of jazz music for fans to enjoy.
He’s acted in a K-drama

He debuted as an actor in late 2016 through the historical drama Hwarang. The show centred around the experiences of an elite group of young men living in the Silla Kingdom, which lasted from 57 BC to 935 AD. V played the role of Hansung, a naive yet well-intentioned warrior.
His baritone voice sets him apart from other K-pop idols

In an industry dominated by tenors, V has one of the most distinctive baritone voices, adding vocal richness to BTS’s songs. One example is his solo song Singularity from the Love Yourself: Tear album. Still, he wows audiences with his impressive range, hitting high notes in ballads like The Truth Untold or gritty tracks like Danger.
He loves having pet dogs

Throughout his life, V has had a wide range of pets, including a white dog named Soonshim who stays with his parents. His most famous pet is Yeontan, a black teacup Pomeranian who even became the cover of V’s first solo album, Layover. Upon Yeontan’s recent passing, ARMYs shared in Taehyung’s mourning over his beloved pet.
