Cultural Centre of The Philippines to Screen 13 Cine Europa Films for Free

The Cultural Centre of the Philippines (CCP), in partnership with the Delataction of the European Union to the Philippines and EU Member States Embassies present free film screenings of Cine Europa 25. Read on to know more

Movie buffs around the Metro are invited to indulge in yet another unique cinematic experience as the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) hosts a free outdoor public screening of 13 thought-provoking films from this year's Cine Europa film festival.

For the line-up of films to be showcased this year, the EU Delegation, the European Union Member States Embassies together with Cultúr Éireann, Irish Film Institute, Goethe-Institut, Instituto Cervantes de Manila, and the Philippine-Italian Association, have curated a set of award-winning films with genres that highlight the European Year of Youth 2022. Guests can witness the movies at the CCP Front Lawn or indoors at the CCP Tanghalang Manuel Conde.

Cine Europa is the longest flagship film festival in the country organized annually by the Delegation of the European Union to the Philippines and the EU Member States which has been the hallmark cultural event of the EU Delegation to the Philippines. Beyond showing European films, this program has become a platform to strengthen EU-Philippine cultural relations and collaboration with Philippine cultural institutions and other partners.

1. "Marina" (Belgium)

Italy, 1948. Young Rocco is growing up in Calabria, until one day his father Salvatore decides to leave for Belgium, where he strives to earn a lot of money by working in coal mines. Very soon he sends for his family. Rocco becomes a migrant overnight, with all the consequences this entails. Rocco wants to be like other youngsters, become someone, and have a purpose in life. Against his father’s wish and better judgment he seeks an escape through music and love. The amazing story is based on the childhood memories of the Italian-Belgian singer, Rocco Granata.

2. "Bicycle Thieves: Pumped Up" (Ireland)

Ricci, an unemployed man in the depressed post-WWII economy of Italy, gets, at last, a good job—for which he needs a bike—hanging up posters. But soon his bicycle is stolen. He and his son walk the streets of Rome, looking for the bicycle. Ricci finally manages to locate the thief but with no proof, he has to abandon his cause. But he and his son know perfectly well that without a bike, Ricci won't be able to keep his job.

3. "Libertad" (Spain)

Nora is unsure how she will survive another summer in her family's coastal mansion in Spain. Her grandmother is ill and her little sister is still a child. Fortunately, Libertad shows up: she’s from Colombia and knows how to handle kids.

4. "Mysi Patri Do Nebe" (Czech Republic, France, Slovakia, Poland)

A film about two mortal enemies-a little Mouse and a Fox, who after an unfortunate accident, meet in animal heaven. They lose their natural instincts and become best friends. Their wish to stay together after they return to earth comes true, but they are reborn into opposite roles. Thanks to the power of friendship they can even overcome what seems to be impossible.

5. "Girl Picture" (Finland)

Mimmi and Rönkkö are best friends, supporting each other in good and bad. They don’t know yet what the future will bring, but the world is open. Emma is a figure skater aiming for an international career. When the three meet at a party, nothing will remain the same.

6. "Oskar & Lili: Where No One Knows Us" (Austria)

The Chechen refugee kids Oskar (8) and Lilli (13), who have been living in Austria for six years, are about to be deported along with their mother. When their mother attempts suicide, it results in the short-term suspension of the deportation–but also in the forced separation of the family.

7. "La Vita Facile" (Italy)

A fourteen-year-old kid, a young woman who smuggles medicines up and down the Italian border with France, and a bizarre American tennis teacher who dreams of being a painter. Their lives turn when they come across an illegal migrant. Together, they devise an absurd plan to help him sneak across the border.
