Cannes Film Festival is a celebration of the best international cinema, as well as a chance for global celebrities to put their best foot forward on the red carpet.
Throughout the years, many Asian stars, such as of Fan Bingbing and Deepika Padukone, have shone on the red carpet, and this time too, the Asian contingent continues to impress with their chic accessories and glamorous outfits. These are our picks for the best-dressed Asian celebrities from the first week of events, from Michelle Yeoh to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

1. Mona Patel in Valentino Couture

Indian entrepreneur Mona Patel served a pretty-in-pink look at the amfAR gala in a floral fuchsia gown from Valentino Couture’s fall 2022 collection.
2. Patrick Ta in Saint Laurent

Celebrity make-up artist Patrick Ta walked the red carpet of the Cannes amfAR gala in a black Saint Laurent suit with wide lapels, sans shirt. Ta accessorised the look with a long scarf that trailed behind him.

Also spotted at the amfAR red carpet was Chinese model Yilan Hua, who sparkled in a silver, split leg dress from Rabanne’s spring 2024 collection.

Michelle Yeoh surprised fans with a burgundy and mint ensemble from Bottega Veneta’s autumn-winter 2024 collection. She mirrored the fringed skirt with a straight fringe hair-do—a new look for the Oscar-winning actress.

South Korean DJ and Peggy Gou cut a striking figure on the amfAR red carpet in a long black and white asymmetrical dress, which complemented her vibrant blue Chopard earrings beautifully.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan arrived on the Cannes red carpet in a standout black, white and gold number by Indian couturier Falguni Shane Peacock. Gold details wrapped around her bodice and golden flowers shone on the train.

Indonesian actress Putri Marino was the epitome of elegance in this opulent red velvet gown by Stella Rissa, and she accessorised with gold touches for a thoroughly romantic feel.

Chinese actress Wan Qianhui sparkled from head to toe in the this silvery gown adorned with pink flowers, complete with a headdress, by Vietnamese bridal house JoliPoli Couture.

British Indian model Rahi Chadda made a bold statement on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet by donning this exaggeratedly square-silhouetted textured brown leather jacket by New York-based brand Luar. He juxtaposed the sharp angles with a delicate diamond floral necklace from Japanese jewellery brand Tasaki.

Legendary Chinese actress Gong Li sported a monochromatic sequinned gown with flowing sleeves and a train that complemented the shine of her Cartier jewels.

Filipino model Kylie Verzosa wore a sparkling pink strapless gown, with petal-like details on the bodice, by fellow Filipino designer Mark Bumgarner.

For his Cannes Film Festival debut, Chinese American content creator Miles Moretti rocked a cheongsam-inspired number printed with bold-red peonies (also known as dongbei dahua in Chinese). Moretti has even gone viral on social media on several occasions for frequently donning this particular print in his videos.

Chinese actress Tiffany Tang glimmered on the red carpet in a silver embellished dress from Fendi’s spring-summer 2024 collection, and kept the rest of her jewellery pared down to let it shine.

Indonesian model and actress Cinta Laura Kiehl wore a feathered and crystal-embellished gown by Indonesian couturier Monica Ivena, which was inspired by the Bali myna bird with its striking white and blue colours.

Chinese actress Guan Xiaotong graced the red carpet in a pink, strapless gown from Elie Saab’s 2008 spring couture collection. The embellishment on the bodice and sheen of the fabric, paired with her voluminous bob, harked back to old Hollywood glamour.
