At the launch of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry’s (IFPI) official Philippines chart, local artists—including BINI—reflected on what truly matters when releasing music

The gay bars, supermarkets, and car radios were dominated by one girl group throughout 2024. If it wasn’t BINI’s Pantropiko, it was Salamin Salamin playing on loop in these places all year round.

This February, the girls of BINI, along with the Philippines’ most celebrated local artists, received long-overdue recognition from the IFPI at the launch of the country’s official music chart.

On the red carpet, BINI’s Mikha, Gwen, Stacey, Jhoanna, Sheena, Aiah, Maloi, and Colet reflected on what it means to release music at the peak of their careers.

“The pressure will always be there,” says Jhoanna, the band’s leader. “[As artists] we should not always focus on the charts or whether we’ll top them. You just release music from your heart, and it will resonate.”

BINI, who won the coveted Top Local Artist of the Year award, shared their excitement: “Of course, this has a huge impact. If someone had told us before that we’d receive this kind of recognition, we would’ve said, ‘Impossible.’ We’re so grateful.”

The group also expressed hopes of breaking into the international music scene, revealing their dream of performing at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival.

The awarding body also honoured singer-songwriter TJ Monterde, whose breakout single Palagi was named Top Local Song of The Year. The pop ballad easily cemented his status as one of the biggest streaming acts of 2024.

Monterde looked back on a successful year with gratitude and humility, crediting the fans for his success. “This past year has really been phenomenal and inspiring. I’m grateful to all my bituins for growing alongside me over the years. [I am] truly honoured to be acknowledged by The Official Philippines Chart, and I’m incredibly excited for the future of OPM in the years to come!”

Other standouts included performances from Suyen, dwta, Nior, Xyvril, and One Click Straight—each showcasing their undeniable talent and making the evening a true celebration of music excellence in the Philippines.

The Official Philippines Chart is an industry-backed weekly music chart showcasing the top-performing tracks from local and international artists in the country based on streaming across all major platforms.
