Too much to watch and too little time? We highlight the new Netflix shows you can’t miss this September

September is finally here and with it comes a slew of exciting shows for us to stream and binge throughout the month as many of us take time off with our kids for the school holidays. 

No matter if you have joined the throngs of Singaporeans flocking to nearby Malaysian cities such as Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur for the holidays or if you plan to kick back and just chill out at home this month, there will always be time to binge-watch a new series (or two). 

From the exciting dramatised documentary of the rescue of a school football team from a flooding Thai cave to the hilarious fifth season of Cobra Kai, there is so much on offer this month.

1. Thai Cave Rescue

In 2018, the world watched anxiously as a dozen boys from the youth soccer team the Wild Boars and their coach were rescued from a flooded cave in Northern Thailand.

Now, you can watch the whole drama unfold before your eyes in a brand new series by Netflix that follows the team on their harrowing trip to the Tham Luang caves.

2. Little Women

Little Women, Louisa May Alcott’s classic novel, has been adapted into a Korean drama and already it has garnered fans everywhere.

Starring Kim Go-Eun, Nam Ji-Hyun and Park Ji-Hu, the show tells the story of three wildly different but connected sisters who are going head to head against the richest and most influential family in South Korea.

3. Fullmetal Alchemist: The Final Alchemy

The finale of the manga series that has gripped the world is finally here. In Fullmetal Alchemist: The Final Alchemy, the battle for the future begins as the series comes to a close. 

Here, Ed and Al visit Central, where a serial murderer is targeting state alchemists. As they get pulled deeper into the crisis, layers of mysteries and truths come unravelled.

4. Narco-Saints

We all love a good crime drama and Netflix is here to deliver with Narco-Saints, also known as the most expensive Korean drama ever made per episode.

The series stars Ha Jung-woo, Hwang Jung-min and Park Hae-soo and tells the story of a Korean businessman who sets up a shop in Suriname in South America and unexpectedly becomes involved in the local crime scene.

5. Cobra Kai: Season 5

Comedy series Cobra Kai is back for its fifth season and this time, we will see Terry Silver expanding the Cobra Kai group as he tries to further popularise his brutal karate style. 

With Kreese behind bars and Johnny Lawrence moving away from karate, this season promises to be epic.

6. Inside the World’s Toughest Prisons: Season 6

One of Netflix’s grungiest documentary shows is back for its sixth season. Once again, former inmate Raphael Rowe is back and volunteers to go behind bars at some of the most dangerous prisons in the world. 

This season, we travel to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cyprus, Greece and Moldova to get an inside look at how prison systems operate around the world.
