Get to know more about this half-Filipino, half-British actress who we've all learnt to love on- and off-screen
Born in Rizal, 33-year-old Phylbert Angelli Ranollo Fagestrom, more popularly known as Bea Alonzo, is, without a doubt, a well-respected figure in the Philippine entertainment scene. The Filipina actress has received numerous prestigious acting awards—six to be exact—including the Box Office Queen award in 2013 for her daring role in the romantic melodrama film The Mistress, which also stars a powerhouse cast that includes John Lloyd Cruz, Hilda Coronel, and Ronaldo Valdez. She also bagged two major awards—PMPC Star Awards for Movies’ Movie Actress of the Year and Box Office Entertainment Awards’ Phenomenal Box-Office Star of 2016—for her portrayal of the character Basha, her most iconic role to date, in the modern-classic film A Second Chance.
Last year, Alonzo and friends reportedly gathered more than PHP6 million in just one month for COVID-19 relief efforts including distribution of food, vitamins, personal protective equipment (PPE), and other medical supplies to 27 hospitals and 17 communities in May 2020.
The award-winning actress is a crowd favourite endorser for brands that range from health supplements, dental, and aesthetics services, among many others. This October, she joins Lazada regional ambassador Hyun Bin as a brand ambassador for the e-commerce’s major campaign.
“I’ve been discovering a lot about myself recently,” Alonzo tells Tatler during the launch of the online shopping platform's 10.10 campaign, and among these discoveries are things many of us might not know yet. Get to know her more with the facts below.
