Not forgetting our personal favourite—‘How much for a table?’
Every year, Tatler Ball never fails to thrill as we anticipate stunning outfits and the familiar faces of dear friends alongside beaming first-time guests who bring their A-game to the red carpet.
From the mad dash behind-the-scenes a month before the big event to the adrenaline of the night itself, Tatler Ball truly brings out the best—and the truly bizarre—in us all.
When it’s over and the last guests have gone, we find ourselves in simultaneously in awe of the exceptional moments we’ve witnessed while laughing maniacally (sometimes manically) over the questions we get asked about the night. From the all too common ’Aiyo, what do I wear??’ to the casual ’Can I bring my entourage of four along?’, we’ve done our best to answer these queries without breaking a sweat.
In the spirit of good humour and some tongue-in-cheek fun, we’ve picked out the best ones yet as we attempt to answer them with a straight face.

Yes, we have received this question, and no—we do not charge our guests for tables, invitations or anything else at Tatler Ball.
If you are, however, in a mood to spend some money that night, be sure to visit our fantastic silent auction table to place a bid on any of our fabulous silent auction items, from ultra-exclusive private dining experiences to 4D3N luxury resort stays, all in the name of raising money for a great charitable cause.

“How do I get an invite?”

Above Tatler Ball in Malaysia is one of the most exciting black tie events of the social calendar
An oldie but goodie—and all we can say is, if it hasn’t already reached you, it’s not likely to this year.
And to those who have DM-ed our editors in the past asking to be their ‘plus ones’ to the Ball, we appreciate the tenacity. Better luck next time!
“Can I sit at the VIP table?”

Above Seating is decided beforehand for all our special guests at Tatler Ball
Anyone in events management will know that details like table seating can change right up to the last second before the doors open. At Tatler Ball, table seating is meticulously planned and decided in advance, with last-minute changes made solely at the discretion of the management.
While we try our best to accommodate our guest’s requests, we can’t guarantee you’ll be seated next to royals—especially when finding out on the night itself is half the fun.
“What is black tie?”

Above For black tie, women are expected to use floor-length formal gowns while men can don a tuxedo with a black bow tie
We’re glad you asked, friend. Dress codes can be tricky, but as a rule, when it comes to Tatler Ball, think bow ties and ball gowns, the grandest outfits you’ve ever worn, and go all out.
This is not the time to hold back. This year’s Nusantara theme is an excellent way to interpret black tie through the lens of Southeast Asian heritage.
“I’m not with my partner anymore. Can you take him off the list and add my current one?”

Above We keep track of everything at Tatler Ball, just not your exes
We did tell you—life at Tatler Malaysia is anything but dull. How did we respond? Ask us at next year’s Tatler Ball.
“I’ve moved. Did you send my invite to the old address?”

Moving is an interesting concept—whether it’s in and out of houses or invite lists. When in doubt, defer to what was said above—if you haven’t already received an invite, it’s just not meant to be this year.
“Can I bring my family, my photographer, my social media manager and my body guard?”

Above Tatler Ball is a time to reconnect with friends and make new ones
It’s not actually uncommon for family members to attend Tatler Ball together—nor for guests to turn up with a team of photographers, assistants and body guards.
Always remember, if an invitation was extended to you and a plus one, then keep it to just the two of you. When in doubt, ask your hosts at Tatler for clarification and keep last-minute surprises to a minimum.
We can’t wait to see you at Tatler Ball 2025 in Malaysia!
