From silent auctions for charity to surprise performances from the Malaysian music icons, here’s what went down at Tatler Ball 2024 in Kuala Lumpur

On November 30, Tatler Ball lit up Kuala Lumpur with its glittering theme of ‘Black Tie with Glimmers of Malaysian Pride’, bringing together the city’s crème de la crème for a night of unparalleled style and substance at The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur. Guests arrived at the five-star hotel in style, with a few selected guests turning up to the red carpet in their luxurious chauffeured rides, courtesy of Volvo Malaysia.

But this glamorous evening wasn’t just about looking fabulous—it was about giving back. Through Tatler Ball’s annual silent auction, we raised funds for three impactful charities: the Society of the Severely Mentally Handicapped, the National Autism Society, and Peace & Harmony Home Penang, thanks to the generosity of our Tatler friends and our silent auction partners Patina Maldives, The Grace Sydney, Picaro KL, Amani Wellness, Sindhorn Kempinski and Niseko Village.

The auction featured an array of coveted items, including a luxurious 4D3N-stay at the Patina Maldives, complete with a private water villa and breakfast at Portico. Other highlights included a five-night escape at The Grace Sydney, a three-night stay in Sindhorn Kempinski’s Executive Suite, a three-night night stay in Niseko Village’s cosy One-bedroom Suite, indulgent personalised biohacking treatments by Amani Wellness worth RM10,000, and a decadent nine-course meal for 34 pax at Picaro KL, inclusive of a glass of Sangria each.

As the ball glittered with high spirits and heartfelt generosity, it reminded us all that we all can—and should—serve a greater purpose.

Tatler friends also took the opportunity to snap group photos at Amani Wellness’ beautiful floral photo wall before enjoying delicious Hennessy VSOP and Hennessy X.O. cocktails. Guests also supped on customised luxury tea from TWG Tea’s exclusive tea bar, along with delicious TWG Tea macarons in assorted flavours and luxe soft serve ice cream from the Godiva booth in the foyer.

To keep the pre-dinner merriment going, guests savoured an array of delicious canapes by The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur while catching up with friends and snapping memorable photos together at the various photo booths on display.

Over at the opulent ladies’ bathroom of the St. Regis Kuala Lumpur, more informal ‘photoshoots’ were taking place as ladies strolled over to enjoy the immersive bathroom decor by Armani Beauty, installed exclusively for Tatler Ball. The bathroom counter-tops were also generously embellished with a range of Armani Beauty fragrances along with lipsticks and other makeup—perfect for a touch-up or two in between photographs.

Inside the ballroom, guests sat down to an exquisite fine-dining experience inspired by the 14 states of Malaysia, crafted by The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur executive sous chef Norazizi Taslim and his team of culinary creatives. Complementing the meal were exciting drink pairings of Moët & Chandon Impérial champagne, Minuty Prestige Rosé 2022 and Hennessy X.O, curated by Moët Hennessy Diageo.

The evening kicked off on a high note (literally), as icons of the Malaysian music industry took to the stage to croon the crowd—including Amy Search (Datuk Suhaimi Abdul Rahman), M Nasir (Dato’ Mohd Nasir Mohamed), Man Bai (Abdul Rahman Osman), Zainalabidin (Datuk Zainalabidin Mohamed), Ning Baizura, Zee Avi, David Arumugam of the Alleycats, Dasha Logan and Joe Flizzow—the same collective star-power to grace this month’s cover of Tatler Malaysia.

A highlight of the evening came when Tatler’s four inaugural Impact awards were presented to four deserving individuals—namely the Tatler Impact Award for Humanity to Puan Sri Siew Yong Gnanalingam, the Innovation Impact Award for Professor Datin Paduka Dr Teo Soo-Hwang, the Culture Impact Award for Joe Sidek, and the Business Impact Award to Brahmal Vasudevan, who recorded a video acceptance speech to play in his absence at the Ball.
