Here lies the story behind Carlo Calma's heavenly presentation: ballet meets art, fashion, architecture, and music
Among many promising activities that the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) has lined up for us, we were teased with what Ballet Philippines has in store for us this coming April.
An original production which will present perfect marriage between five elements: dance, design, fashion, electronic music, and art. Apart from the choreography by Ballet Philippines’ Artistic Director Mikhail Martynyuk, Diyosa by Carla Calma has an enticing storyline projected to leave its viewers with brimming inspiration.

From April 14 to 16, everyone is invited to a fantasy world where Filipino heritage and culture meet contemporary interpretation. Diyosa is not a typical adaptation of Filipino myths about gods and goddesses. Calma's concept is more abstract and reinterpreted through forms of architecture, which resulted in the creation of metaphysical worlds.
"We want to modernise our experience of a god. So, we had to create a dance for each character. The performance will see a fresh new combination of classical, neo-classical, and modern dance styles," adds Martynyuk, following Calma’s perspective.

Diyosa is set to feature eight gods and goddesses in five acts on a sensory journey towards humankind’s awakening and metamorphosis: integrating history, legend, and Filipino humour. This genuine masterpiece of the captivating dance piece is infused with battle cries about climate change and the global environmental crisis.
A ballet conceived to work hand-in-hand with the costumes, set design, and artwork—the chronicle is the first of its kind in Philippine performance arts. Martynyuk proudly concludes that it is a union of art, music, dance, light projections, and storyboard.

Also in line with Ballet Philippines and The Theatre at Solaire's partnership, Diyosa's debut at the famed venue where many amazing concerts from local and foreign artists happened further marks the strong ties between the two; kicking off with an exciting announcement of opportunities for both organisations.
