Here’s what you missed:

Gus Lee, founder of creative development studio Parameta, has partnered with British audio company KEF and generative musician Andreas Rau to create a generative musical piece called Duet, that explores the creative relationship between artists and machines. The music piece’s unveiling at Soho House Hong Kong, entitled KEF and Parameta Unveiled Duet Preview: A Symphony of Human-Machine Harmony, marked the second event of the global event series and continued to celebrate the fusion of technology and culture through generative art.

In 2021, KEF and Parameta had begun a simple exploration called A Journey Through Sound, during a time when not much was known about blockchain technologies. “A Journey Through Sound was conceived as a way to question the prevailing notions of Web 3, the metaverse and NFTs,” says Lee.  Parameta first showcased the artwork Toccata, a collaboration between artist Marcelo Soria-Rodriguez and Andreas Rau at the KEF Music Gallery in Hong Kong in 2022.

As a prominent audio systems producer, KEF empowers creators to deliver immersive moments by incorporating its cutting-edge technology into the arts and culture scene. After the inaugural KEF by Parameta series last year, which also saw unique generative artworks and activations, KEF and Parameta unveiled Duet in November as a follow-up for its generative audio artworks.

The event explored a unique performance that combined improvisation and composition, precise instructions and free interpretation, and synthetic and natural sounds. In Duet, the computer took on the roles of the composer, the conductor and the performer simultaneously. This captivating experience featured a constant stream of sound and visuals, accompanied by live musicians playing musical scores.

This performance showed the relationships between human creativity, musicians and machine intelligence, and gave guests a chance to engage in the creation of a unique generative art experience. The musical scores were deconstructed and slices of the performance were transformed into NFTs.

Guests were in for another treat: The digital artwork was made available to collect on Fxhash, an open platform for artists and collectors to indulge in their passion for generative art, in December. As a token of appreciation, each guest received an exclusive museum-grade generative art print of the preview performance signed by Rau. It seems Christmas came early for the Tatler VIPs who attended the event.
