A theatrical retelling of a biblical tale, ‘Joseph the Dreamer’ takes the stage in July
Since its last staging in 2022, Trumpets’ Joseph the Dreamer has left people moved and inspired by its themes of forgiveness and redemption. Based on Cam Floria’s cantata Joseph, Whatever Happened to the Dreamer?, Freddie Santos’s musical adaptation was first staged in 1989 at the St Theresa’s College of Cebu auditorium. The musical would reach new heights when OPM icon Gary Valenciano joined the cast as the titular character in 1999—a role he would reprise the following year.
Today, Joseph the Dreamer returns to the stage with renewed energy under the direction of Paolo Valenciano and some familiar faces. Here’s what you can expect.

The musical tells the story of Genesis from chapters 37 to 50, taking a close look at Joseph, one of the 12 sons of Jacob and his father’s favourite. Due to jealousy, his brothers sold him into slavery. What unfolds is a powerful journey of hardship, hope, and faith. Despite being restaged multiple times, the 2025 run of Joseph the Dreamer promises a fresh take that appeals to the new generation of theatregoers. “I think it’s time they get to experience JTD, and the powerful story it has to tell… That’s why we are bringing the show back this time,” says Audie Gemora, who played Joseph in 1989.

Headlining the cast is Sam Concepcion, who plays the titular role, with Valenciano returning, this time in the shoes of the family patriarch, Jacob. Joining them are Kayla Rivera, who plays Asenath, Carlo Orosa, who plays the Pharaoh, Julia Serad, and Aicelle Santos, among others.
Joseph the Dreamer will run from July 11 to 20 at the Carlos P Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, Makati City. For more information, follow their social media pages.
