Art Basel, Art Central and more: get ready for a month in Hong Kong packed with art events and celebrations
As March—art month in Hong Kong—approaches, expect celebrations, festivals, art fairs and the biggest names in global entertainment coming to town.
In 2025, Art Basel and Art Central will return with new elements: the former will have a new prize category, while the latter will feature a new section and cinema space in celebration of its milestone tenth anniversary.
There’s also a new Picasso exhibition at M+, jointly presented by the museum of visual arts and Musée National Picasso-Paris; the Hong Kong Arts Festival, which includes the Carmen opera on its lineup; and ComplexCon, which will see K-pop sensations NJZ (formerly NewJeans) and Zico take to the stage. Finally, Blackpink’s Jisoo will be in town as part of her Love, Light, Action! fan meet and concert tour.

Art Basel Hong Kong returns from March 28 to 30 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, spotlighting 240 galleries from 42 countries. This year, it will also feature a new art prize, The MGM Discoveries Art Prize, and film sector.
Expect works from major names from the art industry, including pieces by the late Louise Bourgeois, known for her spider sculptures.

Entering its tenth edition this year, Art Central returns on March 26 and runs until 30 at the Central Harbourfront. This year’s edition will feature 108 galleries and see new elements, including a screening space. The annual international art fair focuses on the next generation of talent from Asia and around the world.

The Hong Kong Arts Festival promises another year of mesmerising performances, with more than 45 programmes featuring classics and brand-new creations. It will also see top talents from Paris, Prague and Vienna perform. This month, M+ and Musée National Picasso-Paris, with support from the French May arts festival, are jointly organising The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Picasso for Asia—A Conversation, an exhibition that puts together more than 60 works by the Spaniard and a further 80 by around 20 Asian and Asian-diasporic artists, taken from the Hong Kong institution’s M+ Collections. Running from March 15 to July 13, the show marks the first time a museum collection in Asia has been presented alongside pieces from the Paris museum.

Art Basel will see the halls of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre filled with paintings, sculptures and installations from March 28 to 30, showcasing works from 242 local and international galleries. But the city’s biggest annual art fair isn’t only about still visual art pieces—the event is divided into “sectors”, one of which focuses on film and will showcase feature films, shorts, videos and moving images created by 30 artists from around the world.

DBS and Tatler are coming together to host Tatler’s ARTable, an exclusive, invite-only soiree that celebrates two incredible talents from the art and culinary worlds: New York-based, Shenzhen-born artist Yuan Fang, a rising star in the art world, and Korean American chef Edward Lee of Netflix’s Culinary Class Wars fame, who are both Tatler’s cover stars this month.
The private event will see Yuan’s works—five large-scale oil and acrylic paintings, as well as two drawings on paper, created between 2021 and 2024—on show, while Lee will create dishes inspired by the pieces. Meanwhile, Yuan’s works will also be exhibited at Art Basel.
