Get ready for a night of Fete Francaise that will leave you spellbound
Under the baton of Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) music director and principal conductor Maestro Grzegorz Nowak, the national orchestra will take its last Switch for the 39th concert season at the Samsung Performing Arts Theatre in Circuit Makati on April 19 at 7.30pm.
The concert program includes three symphonies: National Artist for Music Lucrecia Kasilag’s Violin Concerto No 1, Camille Saint-Saëns’s Introduction & Rondo Capriccioso, Op 28, and Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 5.

National Artist for Music Kasilag was recognised for including indigenous Filipino instruments in orchestral productions. She has written over 350 musical compositions, ranging from folk songs to opera and orchestral pieces, and she is instrumental in developing Philippine music and culture. Kasilag was also the founding mother of the Bayanihan Folk Arts Centre for research and theatrical presentations.
French composer, organist, conductor, and pianist of the romantic era, Saint-Saëns, was a child prodigy who performed at public concerts at a young age. Best known for his 1863 work Introduction & Rondo Capriccioso, Op 28, he dedicated the composition to Spanish virtuoso violinist Pablo de Sarasate.

Finishing off the concert’s finale program is Schubert’s Symphony No. 5—a classic piece that pays homage to musical masters Mozart and Haydn. Schubert is regarded as one of the greatest composers in Western classical music, and his works continue to be admired and performed by millions.

The PPO will also feature violinist Diomedes Saraza, Jr as its guest soloist. Born to a family of musicians, Saraza is renowned for his performances around the globe, including those of the Mannes Orchestra, New York Symphonic Arts Ensemble, International Sejong Soloists, and plenty more. Today, he is an avid educator at St. Scholastica’s College and the Manila Symphony Junior Orchestra.
