Barefoot Theatre Collaborative stages another original Filipino musical inspired by Kip Oebanda’s 2017 film, ‘Bar Boys: A New Musical’, which tells the story of law students Chris, Erik, Torran, and Josh. Here’s everything we know about it so far
Kip Oebanda’s film Bar Boys was the talk of the university lads in 2017. Perhaps what made this movie engaging is how it perfectly encapsulated what goes on in an average student’s classroom life—countless recitations, sleepless nights, friendships and family drama–all the elements seem to be there. The movie either inspired or dissuaded you to attend law school.
This 2024, the story of Chris, Erik, Torran, and Josh runs anew, thanks to Barefoot Theatre Collaborative (BTC), which also staged critically acclaimed plays like Mula Sa Buwan, Pride Plays, and The Last Five Years.

BTC president Pat Valera wrote the book and lyrics for Bar Boys: A New Musical. He will direct alongside Mikko Angeles, known for his work in SB19’s Gento and WYAT (Where You At) music videos. Meanwhile, Myke Salomon composed all the songs, and he will debut his original music.
The creative team includes Jomelle Era for choreography, Ohm David for set design, Meliton Roxas, Jr for lighting design, Tata Tuviera for costume design, Julia Pacificador for property design, and D Cortezano for technical direction.
As for the leading cast, the titular bar boys are Alex Diaz as Chris, Benedix Ramos as Erik, Jerom Canlas as Torran, and Omar Uddin as Josh.
With them are Sheila Francisco as Justice Hernandez, Juliene Mendoza as “Paping,” Nor Domingo as Atty. Maurice Carlson, Topper Fabregas as Atty. Victor Cruz, Gimbey dela Cruz as “Boss Mama” and other roles, Kakki Teodoro as a female professor and other roles, and Carlon Matabato as a male professor and other roles.
