On May 24, 2024, the American Ballet Theatre (ABT) made history by hosting its first-ever event outside the Metropolitan Opera House
The prestigious gala took place at the iconic Cipriani 42nd Street in Lincoln Center, a unique and fitting venue for such a grand occasion. As guests arrived, they were met with a striking magenta glitter wall, proudly displaying the ABT insignia.
The dancers were also decked out in their show-stopping red carpet-ensembles. Stylist PJ Pascual has worked with some dancers for over ten years to showcase classy and chic looks. Principal dancer Gillian Murphy, ABT school director Stella Abera, principal dancers Christine Shevchenko and Cate Hurlin, soloists Chloe Misseldine, Betsy McBride and Luciana Paris, and Corp de Ballet Erica Lall were some of the ladies he has collaborated with.
ABT artistic director Susan Jaffe welcomed the guests and talked about the upcoming Spring Ballet season. After Jaffe’s remarks, ABT School Director Stella Abrera went on stage to introduce the evening’s honouree, Academy Award-winning filmmaker Chai Vaserbelyi. The company honoured Vaserbelyi for her exceptional work and her advocacy of classical ballet.

The highlight of the event is the performance of excerpts from the company’s Spring season. This one-night-only programme featured the curated selection from ABT’s upcoming 2024 Summer season (Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet, Onegin, Like Water for Chocolate), including a preview of Wayne McGregor’s Woolf Works ahead of the New York Premiere on June 14.
Gala guests who gathered for the riveting show included Katie Holmes, Anh Duong, Brent Neale, Carly Cushnie and Crystal Minhkoff.

As soon as dinner ended, guests were ushered to the dance floor, continuing to celebrate the magnificent evening. The funds raised for the night will help the company’s operating costs. The evening was too short, but it was a huge success.
