Developer Tropicana Corporation sets a green standard with its GBI Silver-rated mixed-use project, Tropicana Gardens Mall and Office Tower

Tropicana Corporation Berhad recently received the Green Building Index (GBI) Silver rating for Tropicana Gardens Mall and Office Tower, highlighting the company’s dedication to sustainable urban development. The award recognises Tropicana’s commitment to responsible use of natural resources and environmentally friendly practices, aligning with its sustainability policy.

“Tropicana Gardens is part of the 405-acre Tropicana Indah township, which has evolved into one of Petaling Jaya’s most desirable addresses over 28 years,” said Ong Chou Wen, CEO of Tropicana. The development also won the FIABCI Malaysia Property Award 2023 for best mixed-use development. “These accolades reflect our vision of creating a sustainable, well-connected community,” added Ong.

Introduced in 2009, the GBI is Malaysia’s first comprehensive rating system for environmentally friendly buildings. Tropicana Gardens Mall and Office Tower achieved this certification through passive design strategies to minimise solar heat gain, smart design elements to reduce carbon emissions, and stormwater management systems to protect natural landscapes. The development’s integration with public transportation, including direct access to the Surian MRT station, further underscores its commitment to reducing carbon footprints.

Tropicana has now achieved GBI ratings for six developments within the Tropicana Gardens complex, part of a broader portfolio of 17 green-rated projects. This ongoing dedication to sustainable construction demonstrates Tropicana’s role in fostering environmentally responsible urban growth in Malaysia.
