Make history by owning two impeccably restored Frank Lloyd Wright homes at The Acres in Galesburg.

For the first time in history, two of these four homes designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, the Samuel and Dorothy Eppstein House and the Eric and Pat Pratt House, have been released simultaneously onto the market and are currently being sold as a pair for the price of US$4,500,000.

The houses are based in The Acres, a 70-acre forested site bought by researchers working for the Upjohn pharmaceutical company more than 10 miles away from the heart of Kalamazoo. All fervent admirers of Wright’s work, they convinced him to provide them with the designs to build their neighbourhood. While the original blueprints showcase 21 homes, only five houses were constructed, with four of them following Wright’s original Usonian designs.

Known also as Galesburg Country Homes or simply Galesburg, The Acres remains a significant part of the history of Wright’s work to this day, the only remaining neighbourhood left in America fully designed by the famous architect.

Following its namesake, Galesburg is 10 miles away from the Kalamazoo International Airport and an hour’s drive from the famous Lake Michigan resort communities of South Haven and Saugatuck, making it great for residents who prefer quiet privacy away from the busy city life or investors who might be interested in a unique acquisition.

Current owners Marika Broere and Tony Hillebrandt first purchased the dilapidated Eppstein House in 2016 while looking for a simple weekend getaway home. Shocked by its state, this event would mark the start of their restoration journey to bring this remarkable house back to its original condition of glory.

It was also in the following few years that the neighbouring Pratt House was released for sale and purchased immediately by the couple who had now awoken to their newfound passion.

Amidst the backdrop of the forested landscape of southwest Michigan, both homes look to be plucked straight out of a fairy tale, showcasing the signature features of Wright’s Usonian designs: the use of local and natural materials, flat roofs with generous overhangs and cantilevered carports, open floor plans with a strong emphasis on horizontal lines, and full floor-to-ceiling windows along the house that seamlessly integrate the house with its surrounding landscape.

Bright and expansive with its single-level open floor plan, the three-bedroom and two-bath Eppstein House offers a luxurious 2,250 square feet of pure living space, a prime example of Usonian indoor-outdoor living.

Standing adjacent to the Eppstein House, the Pratt House follow the same distinct features, with clean lines and a carefully restored mahogany interior. With two bedrooms, two baths, a mixed library and music room, and a spacious entertainment area built on an expansive single floor, the Pratt House is Wright's multi-stage design to futureproof and accommodate the growth of the Pratts’ expanding family over the years.

Officially recognised by the American Institute of Architects as the greatest American architect in history, Frank Lloyd Wright is responsible for creating some of the most innovative spaces that exist in the world today, having designed over 1,000 projects in his lifetime.

“These homes are restored with an eye for detail, art pieces as much as they are living pieces,” commented Victoria Krause Schutte, an agent from @properties Christie’s International Real Estate. “As such, this is an incredibly unique opportunity to own a piece of architectural history and become a custodian of Frank Lloyd Wright’s extraordinary vision.”
