These Sunday markets Makati offer a wide selection of furniture, goods, and street eats. These areas double as places where people convene to relax, walk their pets, exercise, and date.

The Legazpi Sunday Market, situated in a residential area mushroomed between Legazpi and Rufino streets is a spot that offers scenic views of greeneries where people can either come to chat and exercise. Salcedo, on the other hand, is where people can get artisanal produce, fresh meat, and vegetables.

If you're planning on settling in an area like Legazpi, directly across its 2 parks is Parkford Suites Legazpi. There are plenty of art exhibits and events around Makati. The place is known for hosting several shows that feature the country's most talented painters, photographers, sculptors, and up-and-coming creative talents.

With its numerous mix of restaurants and food hotspots, Makati has become a well-known culinary destination. In Poblacion, there are spots like Run Rabbit Run, Tatler Dining's Best Bar for 2020; Green Door, an establishment that spins vinyl, hidden in the walk-up of one of the buildings; and Dr Wine, which offers a rooftop hangout for those who want to witness the city's great views from above.

Do you prefer walking, biking, or riding a scooter? Consider yourself lucky because the city of Makati has wide and accessible walkways. The people in the place highly values traffic rules so it's definitely not an accident-prone area for drivers and pedestrians alike.

To add icing on the cake, underpasses in Makati reflect the city's vision of putting Filipino contemporary artists under the limelight. If you pass by any of these tunnels, you'll notice the colourful art installations and paintings around the place. These areas are very pedestrian-friendly given the vibrant and artsy scenery around the area. 

In 2020, the Salcedo underpass featured a 2,000-square-foot mural that paid tribute to the ordinary and celebrated members of the country. The project was launched by photographer Archie Geotina.

With its vast commercial spaces and parks, Makati hosts some of the country's biggest events and celebrations. Every Christmas, for example, people convene at the Ayala Triangle to witness the awe-inspiring dancing lights.

The said Ayala Triangle Christmas light show is among the most anticipated events in Manila when "-ber Months" start to kick in. The two-hectare landscaped urban park boasts a spectacular display of flashing lights that vary in colours. 

Other annual events in the area include the Bailes Delos Arcos (Dancers of the Arch), a festival where talented dancers devote their performances to Makati’s patron saints Virgen Dela Rosa, St. Peter and St. Paul;  and the Xong Di Festival which celebrates the bond between Chinese and Filipinos.

The Makati Central Business District (Makati CBD) is the country's leading financial and central business district. The locale poses a competitive environment for many local and international corporations as well as start-up enterprises. It is surrounded by major thoroughfares like the busy Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA), Gil Puyat, and Chino Roces Avenue.

 

7. Access to Malls

There are numerous malls in Makati; some of these are Glorietta, which highlights a little Japanese town at Top of The Glo; Landmark, which offers a variety of novelty goods; Greenbelt, which has a variety of bars and restaurants; SM Makati, which has a chain of popular clothing stores and food stalls; and recently Circuit Makati.

Circuit Makati used to be a racetrack that operated from 1937 to 2008. Today, it is known for being the city's centre of entertainment, arts, and culture. The 21-hectare land also features restaurants, bars, and novelty shops where the community convenes for leisure. The mall is unique as it combines commercial spaces with vast greeneries. It also has an open space that lets mall-goers breathe fresh air.

People who reside in Makati can choose to ride their respective private vehicles or just hop into a cab or bus to their destinations. In the area, there are loading and unloading stations where commuters can safely wait for transportation. 

Everything a person will ever need is also in Makati. For necessities, there are grocery stores and boutiques in Landmark and SM Makati. For other supplies and home tools, people can easily grab their carts and stroll Greenbelt and Glorietta malls where big furniture labels are. 

Expect stores that offer novelty items around the area too! People can either visit the aforementioned Legazpi and Salcedo Sunday markets or walk to the outskirts of the city where places that sell special goods (like The Alley at Karrivin) are.

Makati City prides itself on being regarded as one of the safest cities in the country. According to the Numbeo Safety Index 2019, the area ranked fourth in the safest city in Southeast Asia with a Safety Index rate of 59.48 points.

Makati Mayor Abby Binay attributed the city’s high safety index to the sustained efforts of the local government. “We in the city government of Makati are heartened by the city’s upgraded stature among the safest cities in Southeast Asia, as shown by the latest report from Numbeo. It is a validation of our sincere commitment to the continuous improvement of quality of life in the city, through building safe and resilient communities where all citizens are empowered to attain their full potential,” she explained.

While it is true that the Philippines has many places where communities can peacefully thrive, there is still nothing like being in the comforts of Makati where accessibility, residents' welfare, and progress are being valued.
