Designed by Edmund Ng Architects, this family home artfully combines the raw architectural details of industrial lofts with tropical elements and modern comfort, making it the perfect backdrop for V-ZUG’s sleek kitchen innovations
Open, breezy, and quietly refined, this house along Marshall Road was conceived as a family sanctuary that balances architectural gravitas with a grounded, lived-in warmth. Designed by Edmund Ng Architects, the home was built around a simple yet compelling brief: to feel spacious and sociable, while staying deeply connected to the outdoors.
“We wanted something open, light and full of character,” shares homeowner David Smith, who lives here with his wife Elena, their son, Ptolemy, and a very friendly cockapoo named Teddy. The Smiths wanted a space that they could share as a family, where they could entertain freely without being boxed in.

The home itself is a thoughtful balance of contrasts. Drawing from UK-style industrial lofts, the space features open volumes, exposed brickwork, and an earthy material palette that tells a story of texture and time. But it also channels the soul of Southeast Asia’s shophouses—bright, breezy and connected to nature. Skylights and inner courtyards bring in natural light and airflow, allowing the family to rely less on air conditioning while staying closely attuned to the lush tropical setting outdoors.
This interplay between raw and refined, masculine and homely, might seem unlikely, but it works. Just as Peranakan homes historically merged cultures into something entirely their own, the Smiths’ home embodies that same spirit of hybridity: intuitive, layered, and alive.
While planning their kitchen, the couple evaluated multiple premium appliance brands, but it was a visit to the V-ZUG showroom that sealed their decision. “We were drawn to the sleekness of the design,” Smith says. “It just felt right for our home. The appliances don’t compete with the space, but blend in naturally with our industrial-meets-tropical aesthetic.”
From the understated elegance of the black glass ovens to the minimalist interface of the FullFlex induction hob, each V-ZUG appliance complements the home’s clean architectural lines while quietly packing in serious performance.
At the centre of it all is the Combair V6000 (Pyrolytic) oven, which has quickly become a family favourite. “It cooks evenly, heats up fast, and even cleans itself. It’s taken the guesswork out of baking,” says Smith, whose Christmas turkey last year turned out perfectly browned on all sides without the need to rotate or add extra time.
Working in tandem with the CombiSteamer V6000, the Smiths can now prepare multiple dishes at once with precision, timing, and minimal stress. “The ‘keep warm’ function is a lifesaver for nights when I get home late. My dinner’s still perfect when I sit down to eat,” he adds.

The CookTop Induction V6000 FullFlex hob, meanwhile, is a revelation in flexibility and control. “We were hesitant to switch from gas, but this changed our minds. You can place a pan anywhere, and it heats up instantly,” Smith explains. The addition of a teppanyaki plate has also turned dinner into a casual, interactive affair; perfect for family nights around the hob, grilling meat and vegetables together.
While the appliances tick every box for performance and precision, what the Smiths appreciate most is how the V-ZUG kitchen enhances the way they live. Whether it’s baking their weekly sourdough focaccia, prepping a pancake breakfast together, or simply enjoying a cup of coffee at the island, the space has become a natural gathering point.
“It’s not just about cooking,” Smith reflects. “It’s about creating moments together. That’s what this kitchen, and these appliances, have given us.”
