Twothree Design crafts a serene and functional home for a young couple and their Maltese, blending minimalist aesthetics with clever storage solutions and personalised touches to suit their modern lifestyle
Although officially established in early 2023, Twothree Design’s roots in Singapore’s spatial design industry stretch back decades. Co-founders Dickson and Jonathan Phoon grew up immersed in the world of design and construction, shadowing their father at job sites and client meetings.
Today, the brothers bring that early experience—and their own expertise in engineering, economics, and interior design—to their burgeoning studio, crafting minimalist and functional interiors that have quickly gained attention in Singapore’s competitive design landscape.
A prime example of their work is the Eminence: Grey Serenity project, a condominium renovation for a young couple in District 5. The husband, an engineer, and the wife, who works in the construction industry, approached Twothree Design after discovering their portfolio on Instagram. Their brief was clear: to transform their new 915 sq-ft home into a serene yet functional space that reflected their minimalist sensibilities.

To meet the couple’s request for more space, the designers merged the master bedroom with an adjoining common bedroom, creating an expansive, multi-functional master suite. The centrepiece of the room was a custom-built study-dresser table that catered to the couple’s combines needs.
“The wife needed a makeup area inside the bedroom, and the husband liked to work at night, also in the bedroom,” shares Dickson, who is the studio’s managing director. “We combined both in a single design, with a long, elegant table that serves both purposes.” Custom-built wardrobes maximised storage while concealing the master bedroom’s toilet door, maintaining the sleek and seamless aesthetic.

In the living area, the design brief focused on creating an inviting yet clutter-free environment. Twothree Design achieved this with neutral tones, sleek furniture, and smart storage solutions.
One of the standout features was a suspended entrance cabinet designed to meet feng shui principles while maintaining a sense of openness. Engineered with a reinforced metal structure, the cabinet was a technical challenge. “We had to ensure it didn’t make the space feel cramped while still adhering to feng shui guidelines,” Dickson adds.

The home’s minimalist aesthetic was further enhanced by thoughtful material choices, including laminates from Lamitak and a sintered stone console from iQuartz. Even the couple’s fur baby, a Maltese dog, was factored into the design, with hidden storage for pet supplies seamlessly integrated into the TV feature wall.
The homeowners were thrilled with the outcome, praising the team’s professionalism and attention to detail. “Dickson and his team have been fantastic to work with,” they shared in a review. “From the initial consultation to the final touches, their professionalism and dedication were evident. The attention to detail was impeccable, and we’re thrilled with how our home turned out.”

While Grey Serenity demonstrates Twothree Design’s ability to create personalised and functional interiors, the studio’s creative vision was also celebrated on a larger stage at the 2024 Singapore Interior Design Awards (SIDA). Twothree Design won three accolades: the Gold Award for Best Residential Design (Floor Area > 100 sqm), the Young Designer of the Year Award, and the prestigious Luminary Award from the prestigious programme.
The studio’s winning concept, titled Refined Elegance: A Modern Luxury Abode, gold winner for the Best Residential Design (Floor Area > 100 sqm) category was praised by the jury for its “thoughtful approach to modern luxury.” The judges noted how the design “embodies the principles of contemporary design with a timeless appeal”, reflecting the studio’s high standards and design-centric ethos.
