JC Interior Design has crafted a chic penthouse for a family in Kuala Lumpur, combining comfort and style
In the flourishing suburb of Bangsar South, a residential development has made its mark on the real estate market by redefining holistic living.
This was what attracted this family to this high-floor unit, which boasted an unobstructed view of the Kuala Lumpur skyline, a private lift lobby, and a generous build-up area of 7,057 sq ft.
Including five bedrooms, five bathrooms, and a powder room, the penthouse also offered its residents magnificent high ceilings, an open-plan layout, a generous balcony, and efficient use of space.

“Upon viewing this unit, my client fell in love with the spacious layout and the unblocked view,” shares Jordan Chen, founder of JC Interior Design.
The residents, a family of four with a live-in nanny and a maid, were long-term clients of 15 years. “This is the third project we’ve worked on together,” Chen notes. “Previous homes were at Bayrocks, Sunway South Quay, and Pavilion Bukit Jalil.”

What also drew the clients to the penthouse was the mindfully designed unit. Low-emission windows facing east and west, along with shades featuring deep overhangs and concrete shear walls on sun-facing sides, help keep the home cool and reduce electricity consumption.
“This eco-friendly approach enhances the living experience while maintaining a comfortable interior climate,” enthuses Chen.

The client had a specific brief for Chen. “The clients requested for a home blending timeless sophistication with contemporary aesthetics, featuring neutral and earthy hues that foster a sense of calmness and elegance,” recalls Chen.
To this end, the materials used in this unit reflect the desired quality and finesse. Rich, dark marble and hardwood floors provide a warm foundation, contrasting beautifully with lighter room elements. Plush area rugs add an extra layer of comfort and luxury underfoot.

“Fine rare marble and bespoke metalwork offer durability and a timeless aesthetic,” says Chen. “Neutral colour tones—creams, beiges, black, and greys—highlight the furniture and artworks without overwhelming the senses.”
Strategically placed accent lighting highlights key architectural features and artworks, creating a dramatic effect. The choice of lighting influences the room’s ambience, with options for warm, soft light for a cosy atmosphere or brighter light for a more vibrant feel.
