A sculptural play of shapes and textures defines this striking Upper Bukit Timah residence envisioned by K2SD Group
Nestled in the exclusive Upper Bukit Timah enclave is a 5,380 sq ft semi-detached house aptly named The Geometria.
Geometrical elements are present throughout various spaces, a poetically inspired design principle underpinning the project. K2SD Group’s principal architect Kelly Kawahara Cheah and project director Tommy Yeo executed an overhaul with full interior design, furnishings and furniture.
The homeowner, a successful entrepreneur, simply requested that the final design boldly create a lasting impression. At K2SD Group, all projects come to life with a unique poetic flourish, personally penned by Cheah.
The poem revealed her intention of embodying boldness through geometry: “Sublime dialogue of geometry with space. Circle, trapezium, and planar silhouettes entwine. Weaving from outside to within, to the soul of the space. Echoing the spirit of the dweller, bold, natural and forward.”

Dynamic Layers
Geometrical elements were introduced to every facet of the design, including planes, circles, varied angles and slants. Textures such as wood, a necessary element of the homeowner’s brief, and luxurious surfaces were employed to bring the boldly elegant vision to life. With one’s home acting as a reflection of the inner self, the homeowner’s bold personality was encapsulated in deliberately surprising design decisions.
From the facade, one inevitably notices the wraparound full-length glass panels and wooden panels, with the latter unexpectedly being window openings. A circular opening in the airwell, as opposed to a square, introduces visual excitement, contrasting with the surrounding straight lines. In the airwell, a light fixture of suspended small spheres dangles from the ceiling, bringing visual dynamism. Layers of lush greenery beautify the front of the house, maintaining privacy while also being inviting.

Distinctive Spaces
The living hall, dining hall, and kitchen are situated on the same level, and flanked by the stairwell and outdoor pool. The wooden ceiling brings warmth and contrasts with lighter stone textures on the walls and the expanse of the entire floor. A circular coffee table with a tubular base, curve-edged armchairs, and an overhanging floor lamp amplify the space’s cosiness. In juxtaposition with the space’s softer edges, an unexpected stone feature belonging to the sleek television console embodies a sense of boldness while organically grounding the space.

A slanted glass feature located next to the staircase is shaped like a trapezium “to shape the space to be more voluminous and dynamic”, says Cheah. Visual contrast is achieved by highlighting a difference in space that usually goes unnoticed, evidenced by the feeling one gets when walking between the stairwell and dining table. The basement entertainment den, with solid and slatted wooden panels, separates different zones while maintaining a moodiness reflective of the homeowner’s aesthetic.

Encircling a rectangular dining table, with semicircular surface details and curved legs, are semicircle-backed chairs. Their darker hues starkly contrast with lighter surroundings. The higher ceiling volume ensures airiness. Adjacent to this is the kitchen, with a sculptural kitchen island taking centre stage. With slanted sides resembling a parallelogram, the island is surrounded by carpentry with dark wooden tones, creating a moodily elegant space. The pyramid-shaped kitchen hood adds another layer of planes to the space.
Refined Elegance

In the master bedroom, wraparound glass panels create an infinity view of the skyline and stunning nature. The curved edges of a rounded armchair and bedfront chaise longue augment the room’s restful atmosphere. The television and its accompanying floor stand are kept intentionally minimalist, with clean lines for a timeless look.

In the bathroom, stone panels form a floating counter with two circular basins. The shower area, with its niches and layered stone slabs forming a bench, brings geometrical elegance to life. The rooftop terrace, with wooden slats under a glass ceiling, ensures shade while infusing more texture.
To Cheah, the living room and dining hall were her favourite spaces to work on, with the latter being the homeowner’s most treasured. She felt particularly fulfilled by the totality of “how we imprinted the design language across the board for the entire house while maintaining refinement”.
