In Coimbatore, the second largest city in Tamil Nadu after Chennai, Mumbai-based architectural firm MuseLAB has completed its most ambitious project yet.
Nicknamed Hacienda, the full-time residence is founders Jasem Pirani and Huzefa Rangwala’s largest commission to date–spanning 12,000 sq ft across a 39,400 sq ft plot.

“When our clients first asked for a pool at Hacienda, it started small–a simple plunge pool–before it grew to 10’ x 18’, and eventually, the impressive 16’ x 40’ we landed on,” recall Pirani and Rangwala.
“When we suggested dressing it in a stunning mosaic pattern, they loved it even more,” they add enthusiastically. “We’ll never forget their reaction when we showed them the visuals; we could practically hear them saying: ‘Build it like this so we can swim and enjoy a drink.’”

“This home is not a distinct departure from our usual gestures but a conscious one,” Pirani explains. “We hero the floor and focus on the forms (vaults), selecting elements within each space where we have collaborated with a lot of local artists and craftsmen.”
