Wanderlust meets refinement in this boho-chic apartment designed by Aisha Ashraf Interiors

Sunlight filters through the large windows in this apartment located in the Holland Park area, illuminating an intricate wooden sideboard below a Picasso tapestry. Renovated in 2025, the abode is a study in boho-chic sophistication, informed by the personal style of its well-travelled Singaporean homeowner and her young family.

To bring the vision to life, she enlisted Aisha Ashraf Interiors to craft a home that is both intimate and highly functional. “The client wanted a practical space that had a bohemian soul,” explains Ashraf.

Spanning 2,800 sq ft and incorporating four bedrooms, the residence is a treat for the eyes with its bold shades, contrasting textures and myriad of styles.

Yet, the overall effect is cohesive thanks to a colour palette grounded by neutral hues and greens. In the dining area, a statement table is bordered by a set of mismatched chairs. Above it, an organic-shaped chandelier adorned with leaves illuminates the scene while earthy, olive-toned walls serve as the perfect backdrop.

Elevating a Classic

Part of a condominium complex built about five decades ago, the apartment posed unique challenges for modernisation. “Our goal was to reimagine the existing layout with structural modifications that enhanced functionality and created seamless storage solutions,” notes Ashraf. “Many structural elements could not be moved, which required careful planning.”

Another challenge was the lack of bathrooms. “Initially, the apartment lacked a powder room, which wouldn’t have worked for the client’s lifestyle,” says Ashraf. This was quickly rectified, and the powder room became a focal design point. Bold, botanical wallpaper punctuates this space with drama, assisted by an eye-catching bobble-framed mirror and a hammered brass sink. Two circular wall-mounted lamps gently bathe the powder room in a soft golden glow.

Layering Light, Colour and Texture

The kitchen is a point of pride. “[We] aimed to establish an open-concept kitchen perfect for entertaining and family cooking, while maintaining an inviting atmosphere. We added textures such as rattan, but kept everything else around simple so that the material can take centre stage.”

Special attention was also paid to the lighting throughout the home. “We place a lot of emphasis on lighting in all my projects. Sol Luminaire helped us to source the appropriate lighting for the entire home,” says Ashraf.

“I loved introducing colour and pattern in measured moments, balancing it with minimalistic joinery details,” she says when    asked what she enjoyed most about this stylishly eclectic apartment’s design journey.
