Pattern lovers and fans of fashion designer Mary Katrantzou’s maximalist prints should check out her new collection with The Rug Company
Often dubbed as the queen of prints, fashion designer Mary Katrantzou is known for her mesmerising mix of patterns on her highly sought-after collections.
Now, you’ll get to own more rugs that feature her designs, too. The Athens-born talent has teamed up with The Rug Company to create a new line entitled, A Life in Pattern. This collection comprises two designs that reference the Mary Katrantzou fall/winter 2019 collection that was influenced by the four classical elements of the Ionian school of Greek philosophy.

Crafted in a mix of wool and silk, these rugs draw inspiration from the rhythmic movements of natural phenomena, interpreted in abstract patterns in two colourways that range from calming blues to energetic fiery tones.
The Feather Marble rug features a pattern inspired by air movements, and is also loosely reminiscent of the vibrant plumage of birds and the sinuous veins found on marble and other natural stone. The Splatter rug showcases dramatic Jackson Pollock-esque strokes that makes the carpet an instant attention grabber whichever room you choose to place it in.

This rug collection marks the second collaboration between Katrantzou and the American rug maker; Fantastic Florals, the last collection launched in 2019, similarly featured dynamic garden-inspired prints. Two designs from this earlier collection, Sunray Nude and Bluebell Dream, recently made on-screen appearances in Carrie Bradshaw and Mr Big’s home, as seen in And Just Like That, the 10-episode sequel to Sex and the City.
Since the start of the pandemic, the fashion designer has certainly not rested on her laurels. Aside from producing fashion and couture collections for her namesake label, Katrantzou has also taken on a slew of notable collaborations with fashion and beauty brands, and celebrated a few personal milestones; she wed her long-term partner Marios Politis last August, and recently gave birth to their son Michael.
The new collection with The Rug Company is part of Katrantzou’s expanded foray into interior design. In addition to the rug line, Katrantzou has created Victorian, a botanical-themed decorative tile collection, launched in February with bathroom brand Villeroy and Boch; we won’t be surprised to see more vibrant decor lines to come, and all the better for fans of her inimitable style.
