Swedish furniture giant is back with another collaboration—this time with British fashion and textile designer Zandra Rhodes; here’s how you can score the fun and playful Karismatisk decor collection

British fashion icon and textile designer Zandra Rhodes has teamed up with Ikea for a vibrant limited-edition collection. The partnership follows a string of successful collaborations that the Swedish furniture giant has been introducing for the past couple of years, which include names and brands the likes of Byredo, Tom Dixon, Hay, Virgil Abloh, and Lego Bygglek

Named Karismatisk, the 25-piece collection will make its debut in Singapore at Ikea Tampines and Alexandra from October 7; online purchases will be available starting October 11. Purchases are limited to two pieces per article, per customer. In Malaysia, the collection will launch within the month of October, while Thailand can expect a release in mid-November.

Rhodes’ signature style can be found throughout the collection. Known for her larger-than-life designs and distinctive flair for loud prints and bold colours, Rhodes has a penchant for creating pieces that are a deft combination of form and function. The 80-year-old designer, who was knighted as Dame in 2014, counts notable figures such as Diana, Princess of Wales, Diana Ross and Freddie Mercury as her clients.

The Karismatisk collection is made in collaboration with Rhodes and Ikea in-house designer Paulin Machado. Inspired by Rhodes’ energetic confidence and desire to champion individuality in all its forms, the striking collection is a manifesto for brightening your everyday living quarters with an unapologetically maximalist personality.

The limited-edition range of decor pieces and textile fabrics introduces maximalist and flamboyant details that are presented in a neon pink and deep blue colour palette—hues similar to the designer’s signature bob and eyeshadow. Rhodes has also introduced her own twist to some familiar Ikea designs; the iconic, cobalt blue carrier bag, for example, is now dressed in bright fuchsia with statement ruffles lining the edges, while the cult-favourite wavy mirror features ‘The Lady Head’ sketch, a stylised face that has been part of Rhodes’ archives since the 1970s.

Other designs, such as hand-tufted rugs in floral shapes and a statement-making dumpling cushion, were inspired by the designer’s fashion heritage.

“I think it will be great fun to live with all of these things—they will heighten your living experience,” says Rhodes, on the collection. “It’s so wonderful to be returning to where my career first started, designing prints for the home! Everything is coming full circle!”
