Ikea has unveiled their 2021 collection for the annual Ikea Art Event. The Swedish furniture giant aims to front an inclusive approach towards art, making it accessible and approachable for the masses. This year, the 10 piece collection features pieces of art that additionally function as everyday homeware.

The collection will drop in-store at IKEA Tampines and Alexandra from 29 April 2021; online purchases will be available from 6 May onwards, while stocks last. In-store purchases are limited to 2 pieces per article, per customer.

Ikea has collaborated with interdisciplinary artists from around the world; this includes Tokyo-based creative collective Gelchop, multidisciplinary American artist Daniel Arsham, Stockholm-based creative duo Humans since 1982, German artist and illustrator Stefan Marx as well as Netherlands-based designer Sabine Marcelis.

“We choose to work with different artists from around the world to reflect the diversity of art and design coming together,” says Henrik Most, creative leader at Ikea. “I feel inspired when I look at this collection because each product has such a strong story.”

Each of the artists have put their spin on functional artware, creating a unique twist on daily objects. The collection comprises of a playful table clock by Daniel Arsham, decorative lighting pieces by Sabine Marcelis, an artistic vase and throw by Stefan Marx, LED table lamps and torches, inspired by Allen keys, by Gelchop, as well as display wall pieces by Humans since 1982.

Since 2015, the annual Ikea Art Event has consistently produced limited-edition collections in collaboration with artists and designers around the globe. Previous collaborators have included Virgil Abloh, Junko Mizuno, James Jarvis and Craig Green.
