Interior Design 101: How Wes Anderson Would Redesign Famous TV Sets

The Regency era was put back into the spotlight upon the release of Bridgerton. An instant success, the Netflix show brought viewers into a romantic world inspired by grandeur and opulence. Daphne Bridgerton's bedroom was reimagined with a more modern perspective in mind. Instead of the familiar fleur de lis wallpaper, Daphne's room now touts bright red wallpaper with a zebra pattern. This is reminiscent of Anderson's affinity for the whimsical and the exotic.

Though modern, the keeps its elegance with a canopy bed in the centre of the space. A pastel ottoman complements the duvet covers and canopy. A practical tip for those looking to recreate this design would be to tone down vivid, bright colours with pastel hues so as to calm the space and avoid any sense of garishness. 

Monica Geller's apartment was a familiar place for many fans across the world. Friends, which became an incredible hit in the 90s and early 00s, was an easy fan favourite. In this reinterpretation, we see the Geller apartment veer away from the familiar purple colours; instead, we are introduced to a colour scheme of mostly pinks, reds, and browns. The large window at the back of Monica's apartment—where Pheobe first saw Monica and Chandler kissing—is given more importance. Large symmetrical drapes add that iconic touch of Anderson aesthetic, and are further complemented by the vintage TV set and even Phoebe's guitar.

An ongoing dramatic comedy, Russian Doll follows the life of Nadia, who finds herself in a confusing time loop on her 36th birthday. This reinterpretation brings viewers into the bathroom of Maxine's loft. In the show, the comfort room is portrayed as minimal, darkly lit, and with a black-white-and-brass industrial style. Reimagining it as Anderson probably would, Agri played on touches of whimsy and symmetry, giving the bathroom much brighter colours but placing the elements right where they originally were—from the left-hand side toilet to the sink on the right and the artwork in the middle. The reinterpretation also boasts twin columns of suitcases, which are an elegant solution for organising bathroom clutter. To add a tactile effect, tiles were added that were inspired by the movie, The Darjeeling Limited. 

In Succession, Logan Roy's office is seen as decorated in shades of white and blue; far too simplistic for Anderson, no doubt. Adding whimsy to the interiors, Roy's office was reimagined with curved windows in order to soften the effect of the entire room. The bookshelves remained and the chair to the left of the office table was replaced from an industrial silver chair into a soft, pastel-coloured plush one-seater. Brighter colours replaced darker ones with a palette that includes hues of yellow, pink, and dark red. 

Set in the 50s and 60s, Mad Men was a fitting period drama that encapsulated plenty of the American social attitudes of the time. Following the life of the mysterious Don Draper, Mad Men brought viewers into the Draper household, which was chosen as inspiration for a Wes Anderson-inspired makeover, this time in the kitchen.

Quintessential to the era, the Draper kitchen mixed plenty of wood panelling with homey wallpaper that, by today's standards, can be considered outdated. Its new look, however, features a more mid-century design with more tapered legs and rounded corners. Though busy in a visual sense, the new kitchen has no clutter, with everything in its rightful place. Rounded kitchen counters and a soft, rounded refrigerator are seen complementing bright yellow hues inspired by Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom.
