Terrence Quah and Bu Shukun built a luxury interior design studio, then organically reimagined it as ARTG Design Group, a platform built on the culture of design excellence, honour and gratitude
When Terrence Quah and Bu Shukun founded Architology Interiors in 2010, the ambition was pointed and clear: to bring the rigour and clarity of architectural thinking into the discipline of interior design. Both graduates of the National University of Singapore’s Master of Architecture programme, the pair had met as colleagues at a design practice and shared a conviction that interiors deserved the same intellectual seriousness as the buildings that contained them.
That founding philosophy, which held boldness in tension with purity and grounded elegance in liveability, earned the studio a reputation for bespoke luxury that has only deepened over the years. What has changed, however, is the scale of their ambition. In 2023, Architology Interiors was placed under a holding entity called ARTG Design Group, a multidisciplinary collective that now encompasses studios spanning interiors, building design, commercial design, branding, fit-out, and product development.

“It took us about two years to figure out what the whole purpose of it was,” Quah shares. What they arrived at was a new way of describing themselves: not just simply as designers, but as creative entrepreneurs.
ARTG Design Group is neither a conventional design conglomerate nor as a franchise model.Quah and Bu describe it as a platform for seeding and nurturing studios alongside their own, coming alongside founders at critical early moments in the way they once wished someone had done for them.
“When our company was three years old, what was it that we hoped someone would come alongside and help us with?” Quah says. “That is what we are trying to offer.”
Bu describes the business entity itself as a perpetual project, one that is continuously being redesigned. “The typical creative business is not just selling services anymore,” he says. “It’s about understanding clients, wearing their hat, and trying to see what else we can dovetail.”
The term the duo reaches for is solutions provider, and it is a deliberate departure from the one-firm, single-discipline model. The group’s studios today include Aarticle (commercial narratives and experiential design), Adjective Design Office, Mi Se, Aatelier (fit-out), ARVA (product development), Architology (Malaysia) and ARTG Design Indonesia, among others.

The core value of these businesses is to cultivate, in the founder’s words: a culture of honour. It took the pair a year of deliberation to arrive at it, but when the phrase was first put on the table, the response was immediate. “Everybody just said okay to it, very quickly,” Quah recalls.
Honour, as they define it, extends to clients, colleagues, vendors, the built environment, and the subsidiaries that have come under the group’s umbrella. A second value is now taking shape alongside it, a culture of gratitude, that has found expression in community activities across Singapore, including food bank drives and volunteering with seniors. “We see ourselves as a people business,” Quah says. “We never want to come to the table and say our design is better than yours.”
These three recent projects showcase the breadth of what the group’s portfolio.
Living with Water

The Seascape duplex in Sentosa Cove sits at the residential heart of Architology Interiors’ portfolio and represents, perhaps most fully, the design philosophy that has defined the studio since its founding. The ground-floor duplex, a unit of such scale and proportion that it has been compared to a bungalow within a condominium development, was given to Architology on an open brief: a rare and telling vote of confidence from the developer, Ho Bee Land, with whom the firm had previously collaborated at Cape Royale.

Winner of the Tatler Homes Design Awards 2024 Best Show Unit category, Architology used that freedom to make a case for restraint over spectacle. Rather than lean into outright opulence, the team gave the sea-facing unit subtle aesthetic and practical interventions that draw the outside world in. The result is a home that, as Quah has said, embodies everything it means to live in a residence as exclusive as this, without announcing it, a rare bungalow living experience on a ground floor unit.
Captivating Brand Storytelling

The Zeekr Centre Singapore on Leng Kee Road is the work of Aarticle, the commercial design studio within ARTG Design Group, and it illustrates precisely how the collective model operates in practice. Commissioned to design Zeekr’s 500th global showroom, Aarticle was tasked with something more ambitious than a car display space: the creation of an immersive, multi-sensorial brand experience for a premium electric vehicle marque under the Geely umbrella.

The site, long and narrow with generous frontage, was turned to advantage with a facade-spanning LED billboard that announces the brand from a distance.
Inside, polished chrome and hairline-finish stainless steel establish a high-tech register, while orange floor markings evoke a racetrack environment and a careful balance of straight lines and curves mirrors the aerodynamism of the vehicles themselves. It is the kind of project that encapsulates Bu’s argument about the new economy: in a landscape saturated with options and visual noise, the job of design is to help clients make better decisions.

Hospitality as Collective Creation

The Artotel Living World Grand Wisata in Bekasi, Indonesia, was designed by Karya Cipta Simetri (KCS) as lead consultant, alongside Mark Associates and Indonesian architects Laurenthia Wiyanty and Rama Adhitya. The last two are the co-founders of ARTG Design Indonesia (previously Breathe Design), the group’s Jakarta-based hospitality-focused studio, and partners within ARTG Design Group, giving the project its connection to the collective.
Opened in February 2026, the property rises across 13 floors with 216 rooms, each enlivened by Indonesian contemporary art in keeping with Artotel’s art-plus-hotel identity. The three room categories are all called studios, a deliberate nod to the brand’s creative ethos: compact and curated at one end of the scale, and generously proportioned with layered lighting and bold artworks at the other.

Above Terrazzo reception counters, hand-sculpted botanical wall reliefs, and a vivid orange ceiling define the arrival experience at the Artotel Living World Grand Wisata, realised by Karya Cipta Simetri (KCS), Mark Associates, and ARTG Design Indonesia
Art is woven into the public spaces too, most notably through Artspace, the first hotel-integrated gallery in Bekasi, which launched with a series of abstract works and is designed to spotlight emerging Indonesian artists on an ongoing basis. Integrated directly into the Living World Grand Wisata shopping complex, the hotel positions itself as a lifestyle hub where retail, dining, entertainment, and accommodation converge, with the COO of Artotel Group describing it as a centre for creativity, community, and contemporary lifestyle.
It is a project that speaks directly to ARTG Design Indonesia’s focus on experiential, lifestyle-driven hospitality, and to the group’s wider conviction that design, at its best, does not merely dress a space but gives it genuine purpose.

Looking ahead, the group is preparing for further growth, including a joint venture focused on developing Singapore-branded product IP across furniture and lighting, a talent incubation programme, and a move to new premises later this year. The business, as Bu would put it, is still very much being redesigned. But the foundation, built on creative intelligence, a culture of honour, and a deep belief in the primacy of people, is already firmly in place.
