Over the past 130 years, Poggenpohl has become the leading international brand for bespoke kitchen architecture

Since founding the family business in 1892, Friedemir Poggenpohl’s aim has always been to “make the kitchen better”. Throughout its long history, Poggenpohl has consistently aligned itself with its founder’s vision, committed to continuously optimising the kitchen and meeting the highest quality standards in both function and design.

After over a century, the former cabinetmaker’s shop has become one of the world’s leading brands for luxury kitchens. Inventors of the modern kitchen that we are all familiar with today, Poggenpohl combines architectural concepts and practices with trendsetting design, outstanding craftsmanship, and technical precision.

What makes Poggenpohl different from other kitchen makers is their combination of practical experience with new and modern methods. An example of this is their proprietary sanded-lacquer technique, similar to that used in piano manufacturing, offering high-gloss finishings for kitchen surfaces that are resistant to daily wear and tear.

Still incorporating modern production technology into their high-end handmade craft, all Poggenpohl kitchens are manufactured exclusively in Germany to ensure their exceptional quality and hallmark distinctiveness.

The interplay between function and aesthetics is one of the most powerful themes that design and architecture have brought to people’s daily lives.

Poggenpohl has been intensively involved in discussions among international experts since the 1970s and cooperates with experienced architects and designers on multiple developments. Through careful selection and precise craftsmanship of various materials, an unmistakable aesthetic is created that makes keeping things tidy a true pleasure.

Innovation is a tradition at Poggenpohl. With unexpected ideas, the company continually masters challenges with creativity.

In 1970, designer Luigi Colani sketched a visionary concept for the year 2000 with his spherical blue kitchen that combines all the necessary kitchen features in the smallest space possible. Inspired by the moon landing, this was a time when many believed a future utopia existed for humanity in space.

This study is a testament to the innovative commitment deeply embedded in Poggenpohl’s thinking and actions since its inception, always focused on people.

A look into Poggenpohl’s current work

Poggenpohl welcomes you to the kitchen, the heart of the home, with a palette of warm colours and materials crafted with masterful workmanship. With three distinct concepts used as a starting point for kitchen inspiration, the interplay of materials, finishings, and colours creates a kitchen space that acquires its own distinctive character.

At the beginning of the 21st century, Poggenpohl introduced +Segmento, a modular design concept that became a recognisable classic and remained an integral part of the program to this day. With classic features that radiate modern elegance, +Segmento impresses with its bold lines and functionality while still having plenty of room to imbue the space with one’s personality.

Poggenpohl’s second kitchen series, +Modo, is characterised by its play with dimensions and sizes. Worktops and cabinets are offset against one another to form interesting and sophisticated construction. In the unmistakable design language of Jorge Pensi, the worktop spans the cabinets below, appearing to float. This resulting free space gives more room for utensils and personal accessories.

In 2018, +Venovo was added as a design line that relies entirely on the power of standalone furniture that can be flexibly used in various living situations. Vertically staggered at different heights to mimic the natural environment, +Venovo kitchens seem to float as side frames lift the cabinetry upward. The specially treated opaque surfaces are soft to the touch, inviting a hands-on experience while limiting fingerprint smudges. The award-winning design dissolves the traditional boundaries between kitchen and living spaces.
