Streetwear icon Nigo is set to bring design eclecticism into Not A Hotel’s shared luxury cliffside residence in Tokyo
Nigo is no stranger to the street fashion and culture scene in Tokyo, with global influences that span decades.
Since founding streetwear brands like Human Made and A Bathing Ape in the 1990s, he has become a cornerstone of urban style, before expanding his portfolio to work with Louis Vuitton in 2020 and 2021, and more recently, appointed as the artistic director of Kenzo.

Now, the creative director is set to design luxury hospitality group Not A Hotel’s first residence in Tokyo, slated to begin construction in autumn 2024, when shared ownership opportunities will also be available.

“With the increase of overseas visitors to Tokyo, I’m excited to support the opening of Not A Hotel Tokyo—truly my ultimate ideal for a living space, made with the highest levels of perfection and detail, in an extremely enticing location,” comments Nigo of the collaboration with the luxury hospitality group.

Perched atop a cliff on the coast of Futtsu, Chiba that overlooks the Tokyo Bay, Not A Hotel Tokyo immediately captures the attention with the giant steel statue of contemporary artist KAWS’ signature Companion, positioned dramatically on the roof, welcoming guests that arrive into the abode through a tunnel that runs straight into the property’s garage area.

Upon entry into the site, guests are immediately treated to unimpeded views of Mount Fuji through the floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room, where, alongside the office areas, features unique art pieces from Nigo’s favourite contemporary artists, as well as vintage furniture pieces by Jean Prouvé and Pierre Jeanneret, two of his favourite designers.
The living room opens into the dining area, where a dining table seats up to 12 guests, and a fully equipped kitchen caters for gourmet entertaining.

Not A Hotel Tokyo also houses a listening room that boasts speakers from New York’s innovative OJAS audio brand, multiple bedrooms, and sleeping pods inspired by Nigo’s personal vacation home.
Not to mention, a proper traditional tea room is even available for a sadō tea ceremony, inspired by Nigo’s deep involvement in the world of Japanese pottery.

Other amenities on the property consist of a wooden Japanese bath and a pool area with an added playful touch—the giant inflatable duck emblematic of Nigo’s Human Made brand.
“My worldview is contained in this house,” Nigo concludes. “I believe that a home needs people inside to be meaningful and ‘alive,’ and so I look forward to the day when owners begin staying there.”
